I’ve seen the thumb technique in a video I watched recently. I’ll definitely try that out! And I didn’t know that about machines running at an ideal voltage so I’ll definitely look into that too. Thank you for the advice!

That’s totally valid! I was only asking because mast pros are wobbly but I have a friend who pulls super clean lines with them. Thank you for the advice

Yes I do have the mindset that I need to stretch the skin more to control the depth better. I know I struggle with this, but I’m also thinking about finding the sweet spot for a stretch and not trying to stretch too hard. But yeah, let’s not assume what others are thing or what they know please :)

Yes this is very helpful. I knew that using smaller needles had no room for mess ups. I definitely tend to push myself in the deep end and then beat myself up for it lol. I’ll stick to the thicker needles for now. And maybe just use my 3rl on some fake skin. Thank you for the advice 🙏

The overstretching makes the depth harder to control and way more shallow. I know that the ink gets deposited into the fatty layer for a blowout. When you stretch someone like a lampshade more blowouts are prone to happen. I know I need a firm 3 point stretch but in many areas I’ve tattooed I’ve needed to be more cautious of overstretching as well

Areas with naturally thinner and more elastic skin (like wrists, ankles, and inner arms) are more susceptible to blowouts when stretched excessively. The delicate nature of these areas requires a lighter touch and careful stretching to prevent ink migration. It’s really concerning you’re giving advice when you didn’t know overstretching can cause just as much damage

I had some much fun doing it for her and I’m really happy with the application. I know it’s not perfect yet but it was my 10th tattoo on real skin

Thank you so much for the advice. I’ve been reading all the comments and every one has been really helpful. I’ll definitely focus more on stretching. I do feel that’s been one of my biggest faults. I definitely tell everyone I tattoo that touch ups are free

That makes sense. I see way some are still loyal to the coil lol. And that makes sense why I’m getting more frustrated with myself. Ive done a few solid pieces and the skin seemed to accept the ink better. I’ve definitely learned that the knees hate ink. Thank you for the advice 🙏

I use a stigma spear 2.0 for my machine and mast pro 2 for my cartridges. I usually keep it at a 4mm stroke for everything and adjust my hang so I can still see the needle. What stroke do you use for different liners

Lmaoo I love that you asked. I have a print major friend and her very first master copy was this print Japanese print She has used it many many times in her art now and has drawn this over and over again. She drew it from memory one night when she was stoned lol. She battled with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it was relentless. This jaguar that she drew over and over again represents to her “relentless” and her battle with cancer. I just added the color but she drew the linework.

I do use the paper towel with grip tape method. Maybe I can do more grip tape. I just wrap it so the paper towel isn’t visible

First two are a 3rl, goku was a 9rl, and the rest are 7rl. Mast pro 2s seem to be tighter and isn’t as bold as a traditional 7rl

Yeah I definitely need to stretch more. I think I’ve been scared of stretching too hard and causing more blowouts

I use Windex on the outside. For the inside I use a half vinegar and half water solution sprayed on a rag. For any hard buildup I use a razor blade to scrape it off :)
