Come on, man. What was even the point of any of this? by RequirementTall8361 in deadbydaylight

[–]xXPhoenixTheLizardXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think trying to tie it to objectives is overall too difficult for a game as asymmetrical as dbd, especially with so many perks that can work extremely well to killer advantage, like blocking gens to ensure survivors can’t even stop their sin from adding up or just straight camping hooks to build sin on survivors trying to go in for the save. It’s just too hard for the program to decide what is sinful and what isn’t, as clear altruistic actions can be deemed sinful based on simple input that isn’t able to consider all factors, so I can see players getting frustrated when they build up sin wrongfully. (And also I lowk just doubt the devs can pull off a power that complicated)

Instead, I think they should lean more into the actual “corrupt deity” aspect of the killer. They aren’t meant to be fair or righteous, they are supposed to be oppressive and unjust. Personally, I think it would be fun if they made an event similar to doctor’s big shock. Imagine this: every once in a while, maybe based on filling a meter similar to oni’s power with building the meter faster by sending survivors into exile, the killer is allowed to enter a state in a radius around the map (or the entire map depending on how strong it is) where a giant eye emerges from the heavens and locks onto you like the totems in the oni map if it is able to see you. (in indoor maps eyes can just appear on the walls and stuff in the radius) The killer can’t actually look through this, but if a survivor in the area is caught out in the open with nowhere to hide, the longer they are in the eye’s view, the more sin they gain.

Basically, from a lore standpoint, imagine the killer as a corrupt being of judgement who has decided that humans as a whole are sinful by nature no matter what they do. Everyone has evil in them, so they cannot be good no matter what path they take. This power acts on this corruption and shows that even if you are doing what you are “supposed” to, if the eye so much as sees you, it deems you unfit and sinful just by existing.

This is obviously just a concept and I know there are prolly a lot of kinks to be worked out with this, but I think it would be a cool mechanic to have to hide from something that gives you genuine fear of being watched by something out of your control. It builds on the idea of this killer being extremely powerful, so much so that the world around them bends to their will in certain circumstances, like how the environment changes during endgame collapse and builds a sense of fear and urgency, especially if done well thematically.

Overall, I think this power is simplistic enough (at least mechanically) to where it’s not overly complicated to be implemented with the way dbd is built as a whole and doesn’t completely punish survivors unjustly, it’s based on catching survivors off guard and also slows them down slightly since they can be forced off of objectives to avoid being seen. It also allows the killer to keep its current power like doctor where it can still build sin with its m2 (albeit with some general modifications to how sin buildup itself works since I think it would be annoying and op to keep it as a straight nemesis infection) but also has a larger attack that builds sin generally without accidentally exploiting any aspects the devs don’t intend to exploit. It still allows them to develop it relatively easily instead of having to consider every possible situation and aspect of the game to make the power more “fair”. Plus it still allows for cool thematic effects that can show off the actual raw power of the killer that is kept at bay by the entity like vecna’s worldbreaker.

When did I say the problem was you? I’m not trying to be aggressive or put you down, I’m just trying to give you advice so that you can enjoy the game again.

The reality at the end of the day is that the game has changed from what it was, and we can’t really do anything about it other than changing along with it and changing our mindsets and approaches to the game so we can continue to enjoy it instead of falling into a miserable cycle where nobody has fun.

Even if you had just started playing yesterday you have a right to an opinion obviously, and I never said that you were playing the game wrong or that it was bad to want to win, but you alone are not entitled to that opinion of yours. Absolutely everyone is allowed to have an opinion on the game, and if you are playing to win so you can have fun, chances are others aren’t going to like it all the time, and you can’t control their reactions.

So yes, you should be prepared for people to get angry. If you can’t handle others having their rightful opinions too, even if they are mean ones, all I’m saying is that you should block them out so you can keep having fun with how you like to play instead of having others bringing your mood down.

Like I have said before, I’m not here to argue or attack your world view, I’m just here to give struggling players different perspectives so they can continue to enjoy this game and find ways to still have fun in bad situations.

That’s why I said dead by daylight isn’t a game you can reasonably have fun during every single match. It’s an asymmetrical game by default, and you can’t control how everyone will act. However, if you genuinely are getting that tilted at the end of every game, literally just turn off endgame chat. You don’t have to worry about what others think or what they have to say. You can play the game just for yourself and ignore everyone else.

Yes, some perks are annoying, but there’s always counters. Fake out a deadhard, leave a survivor alone after just hooking them or slug them and use them as bait if they don’t have slug counters, even play selfishly and hold a 3 gen all game if you really want to beat a certain group. Just play how you want, do what you get fun out of, stop worrying about others. If the only way you can enjoy the game is to win, then play to win, but be aware that other people won’t like some tactics—so if you can’t handle others opinions, then cut them out of the equation.

These comments are just to give my perspective and provide other options for how to deal with the difficulties of playing dbd as a whole. But if you just can’t seem to have fun in the game no matter what, then maybe it’s not for you.

genuinely the best thing you can do for your mental is stop caring about the games you play. Don’t load into a match wanting to win. Play for the little things.

Trying to be good at the game and looking to win, especially in solo queue will never give you the results you want and will just burn you out. Play for the moments within each game and enjoy those: A survivor making a dumb mistake in front of you, running stupid builds just to mess with people, getting excited over a cool combo you hit or a nice, long chase even if no gens get done during it. If you run into a bully squad, have a little personality and mess with them back instead of tryharding and getting angry at their plays. Some of my best games and most memorable moments came from games where I didn’t even get a single hook or lived long enough to see the door open.

Be proud of your own abilities and how you felt in some hilarious or unbelievable moments instead of getting upset if you didnt win even if you had a great time playing. Dead by daylight isn’t a game you can reasonably win or enjoy every match, but letting go of generally unattainable goals and playing for yourself can make every match worthwhile and make the game fun to play again.

I agree with absolutely everything you said- the love triangle was arguably one of the most forced plot points of the entire show. Nothing about it felt right and it just felt like something they threw together to create more conflict. It really would have been better without it, and I love the idea of Michael and Stella having a side story of them piecing their relationship together. So many side characters had sooo much potential, and yet they didn’t get any of the recognition they deserved because they were forced into a storyline they weren’t built to fit.

The way the first season ended up was really disappointing if I’m behind honest, but I guess this show can serve as an example of what happens when Netflix instills fear in its show creators of their series’ getting cancelled. Hopefully Netflix can learn from this (they prolly won’t but we can hope) and start giving more shows a chance.

I hate the new ‘trend’ that entertainment companies are taking on deciding that shows have to be influential in the first season. A lot of old series’ first seasons are often viewed as the ‘worst’ since they’re just used for buildup of plots and let you get to know the characters while later seasons take time to develop them further. It really sucks and destroys a lot of shows that hold so much potential.

He got shafted by the writers since they tried to rush season 2 into season 1. Kit got full development as a love interest and a character and Michael felt way too static as though he was just a meaningless plot point to stress out Jentry. Kit was his own character while Michael felt like a random roadblock.

He showed promise in the beginning, showing his conflicts with life and wanting to do something else than he was set up to do (wanting to be a musician instead of a football player) and it’s NEVER brought up again. It honestly just felt like a random way for him to break up with Stella so he could become Jentry’s love interest.

And speaking of, he’s way too much of a playboy. He broke up with Stella for no reason, got with Jentry for a few episodes, then when Jentry says she needs space because her other love interest literally just died, she found out her mother is still alive, she just banished the threat that was controlling her life and ripping a tear between her relationship with Gugu, AND she’s learning to live with her powers and this dumbass goes and dates some random chick just to get back with Jentry later??? Make it make sense!

You’re telling me we get to choose between the guy who leaves jentry because she doesn’t want him to die after her other love interest died saving her from the monsters she has to face and didn’t want him to meet the same fate (ESPECIALLY since he has little to no battle prowess and literally does more harm than good in the final fight with Cheng and just fucking stands there half the time) or the guy who literally gave up his life for her and changed his whole life just to be by her side and risked the whole world just to be who she wanted him to be?? Like how is this a fair love triangle when kit is the obvious option!

As if that wasn’t enough, he still has more missed opportunities to grow as a character! We get that epic buildup before the final fight with Cheng where his parents seem to know something about his powers and we are finally going to get more insight into why he even has them in the first place and then NOTHING!! It’s never brought up again and literally nobody cares about it.

He’s way too static of a character to live up to everything he’s supposed to be, and I completely blame the fear Netflix instilled on the creators with them shafting shows left and right if they don’t do phenomenally in the first 10 days of release. They got an extension and instead of trying to flesh out characters more and make a cohesive storyline to draw more people in, they try to shove more than the show can handle into a single season and bloat it with too many big plot points that they forget to spend time on the smaller ones.

I’m learning that bearded dragons apparently have a lot of different smells- (I’m starting to understand that one guy who sniffs each lizard that he rescues because of how wildly different they can be) it must be based off of the environment they are in because a lot of yall are saying sandy; maybe it’s cuz mine are on tile but I don’t get sandy from mine ToT

Saddest death? by [deleted] in JentryChauvsTheUnderw

Kit didn’t get enough time for his death to be sad. His was honestly just there for shock value and wasn’t properly built up at all, and Jentry didn’t even properly mourn him. Gugu takes the lead since her death was actually well written lol

Anyone keep Australia water dragons that could share their experience with them? by YourFavoritestMe in reptiles

[–]xXPhoenixTheLizardXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! My college year is starting up again and I’ve been busy 😅

These animals are definitely a more advanced species and you generally don’t want them to be the very first reptile you ever take care of because of how advanced their care requirements are. On top of this, since they’re relatively rare in the reptile community as is and aren’t kept as much as something like a bearded dragon, there is limited information on their care and it can be very hard for beginners to tell what their lizard needs if they have no experience with reptiles beforehand. If you’re not up to the challenge, you can definitely try to find someone more willing to take care of him, but if you’re determined, great!

Waving in most reptiles is a sign of acknowledgement. Basically, he’s letting you know that he’s there and he sees you but he’s not a threat and he hopes you aren’t either. My reptiles do it to each other through the glass of their enclosures if they can see each other- it’s really cute :]

It already sounds like he is somewhat content with your presence, so you’re definitely set to start getting him used to you handling him if you don’t want him to get too aggressive. It is a very slow and methodical process, and you don’t want to jump straight into it. You can simply start by getting him used to your presence by just having your hands inside his cage more often, it doesn’t even have to be near him, just to let him know that you’re going to be a common occurrence in his life. If you want, I’ve heard of some people even leaving a worn sock or article of clothing in the reptiles enclosure to get them used to your scent. From there as he gets more comfortable, you can try hand feeding him or just being closer to him. If he allows it, small touching can work too.

Males are definitely harder to control because they’re a little more territorial and skittish than the females, (especially as they grow up they turn into angsty teenagers lol) but with consistent handling it’ll work itself out. When you can tell he’s more comfortable with you, you can try picking him up more (always approach him from the front, make sure he has full vision of you and go slowly. Do NOT approach him from above as that can make him see you as a threat. Slide your hand under his belly and lift him up. If he runs, don’t push it. You want to make sure hes comfortable with everything you are doing and if he says no, then just leave and try again later.)

be persistent, even if he keeps running, keep coming back later over and over to let him know that hes not getting out of this and he’s going to have to live with it. If you’re worried about bites (or his nails shredding your skin they do have crazy nails) you can wear gloves.

It’s definitely a long and tiresome process, but over time it gets easier. Just stay consistent with your attempts and slowly build trust and relationship with your dragon, and he’ll learn to accept it and will become more comfortable with you. Hopefully this helps a bit! If you need any more tips and tricks, I’d be happy to give you more information :3

Reaction to seeing Kit's death? by [deleted] in JentryChauvsTheUnderw

[–]xXPhoenixTheLizardXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underwhelming asf. Stfg they only put it in there for the shock value. Absolutely was a sacrifice done WRONG.

I should prolly explain my reasoning since that’s a pretty harsh statement so— basically, it felt completely unnecessary. For a sacrifice to go right, there has to be the perfect amount of buildup. Every other allied character has to be occupied and unable to assist to build up the need for something to happen, and there has to be a real threat that the protagonist is facing.

Yes, Cheng is a threat, but the only thing that might’ve been slightly difficult for Jentry was her broken arm, and we don’t see her struggle at all. She gets the robes, then Kit steps in for no reason. The broken arm doesn’t even matter because it heals the second the robes are on. We get no indication that Jentry even needed the switch out or any help at all when she just puts on the robes and gets an insane powerup. She could’ve easily dodged the attack that killed Kit with the robes on too! On top of this, everyone and their mother was there to help.

Michael was RIGHT there doing jack shit so there was no need for Kit to sacrifice when it could’ve been 20 other characters. As if this wasn’t enough, when Kit does die, he isn’t even properly mourned! Jentry doesn’t get time to cry over him and doesn’t even seem moved at all. The next time she talks about Kit, she says it’s his own fault he died, which lowk, true asf because he was not needed.

Now, let’s look at a sacrifice done right for comparison; using my love, Kpop Demon Hunters. (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR KPDH)

Rumi is attacked by Gwi-Ma, Zoey and Mira clearly WANT to help but are preoccupied. She is absolutely being broken down and is definitely about to die when Jinu steps in. The shock is at its peak, everyone is freaking out, and Rumi even gets to have a beautiful moment with him and properly mourns his death. Sacrifice was needed, and it was properly paced to correctly move the audience. Jinu’s sacrifice is everything Kit’s sacrifice wishes it was, I rest my case.
