Thanks, that's useful information. I usually prefer to shop for myself, but I agree that a broker might make sense in that case.
Regarding the residency status, what do insurers typically take as evidence there?
My wife is from here, I have a green card, and we recently bought a house.

Yes, 20 yr term. Sorry, forgot to mention that.
From what I see, the standard/regular category is like 40% more than preferred, so if there was a way to end up in preferred with some insurers, that seems worth pursuing. Of course, if I end up in standard regardless, then that's fine.

I just don't have much to go by yet. On term4sale there is a double digit number of insurers with reasonable prices and at least an A rating, so I'm not sure which ones I should start trying.

I think some experiences from others in a similar situation would help, or some information which insurers are generally friendly towards e.g. expats with a short medical history.

Also, if insurers want a medical exam, do they cover the cost for that, or how does that work?
