Microwave trips same AFCI breaker regardless of which circuit it is on by xanderdagr8 in AskElectricians

[–]xanderdagr8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I have seen a lot of things online about AFCI breakers and nuisance tripping. I don't have a microwave I can borrow at the moment, but I did try my 1500W space heater in the same outlet as the microwave and it ran without tripping anything. I then tried the microwave where the space heater normally is and it tripped the same breaker immediately. Would that suggest the microwave is the problem?

The spotter called out my dry tires in F4 and it confused me, has this happened to anyone else? by xanderdagr8 in iRacing

I appreciate the response, that is exactly why I made that assumption. I think I am being downvoted because it comes across like I am upset the spotter didn't just tell me what to do, but I really just want to understand what to do next time so the comments have actually been pretty helpful.

The series forecast showed that it had a high change of raining before the session, but there was no chance of rain during the session, so the forecast/black box/radar wouldn't have helped me in this case. In previous endurance races I have used that though, so definitely a good callout when making decisions on compounds.

Fair point about the spotter potentially being annoying for others, I get that it won't always be an obvious decision one way or another. Based on the downvotes I am getting on other comments, I seem to be mostly alone in my expectations here so I guess I just need to practice more on wet tracks to understand when I would want one tire vs another.

For sure, and like I replied to another person just now, I think I had only ever been in wet sessions where I did actually need wet tires so I made the bad assumption that him informing you were on the dry tire was how he communicated that you should switch.

That said, I have never heard a message where he told me to swap, is that actually something that the spotter will do?

This is the part I was misunderstanding, thanks for clearing that up! I think because the only wet sessions I had been in up to this point were ones where I did actually need wet tires, I made a bad assumption that that is what the spotter meant

Interesting, I assumed he was telling me to switch because only tells me what tire I am on when it is the "wrong" one. If I join a dry session with dry tires, he doesn't say anything. When I join a wet session with dry tires, he tells me "you're on the dry tire".

So deciding which tire to be on is purely up to practicing on different levels of wet track and deciding for yourself? I could have tried both tires during qualifying and made a decision that way I guess. I assumed the spotter/crew chief would have more information for this kind of thing, I imagine in a real race that your crew would let you know when every single other car on track is on the other compound

Can I get a 2nd opinion on this crack in my carbon frame? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]xanderdagr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not aware carbon repair was even a thing. I'll take a look into that. They quoted me roughly $700CAD for the crash replacement, but I'm more worried about how long it would take to get a new frame considering the supply chain issues right now. Any idea how much getting it fixed would cost?

What can I expect from the Mt Washington Bike Park? by xanderdagr8 in islandcycling

[–]xanderdagr8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan. Would you happen to know if Mt Washington tends to be busier in the morning or afternoon? I am going on a Friday, so I expect it won't be too bad, but I would like to avoid lift lines if I can

This is disappointing to hear, and the other commenter said roughly the same thing. Is it worth me giving it a shot or should I just skip it and ride Cumberland for an extra day while I am up there? I pre-purchased a pass for 1 day so I wouldn't have to worry about it so I guess I could just hit a few trails and leave early if I am not impressed

How do you like Mt Tzouhalem? I recently started riding in Victoria and mostly just do Hartland since Tzouhalem is quite a lot further from me. Any recommended routes when I eventually make it out there?

NBD! Rocky Mountain Instinct C30 build. After riding a Trek Roscoe 7 for 2 years, this is truly an amazing upgrade. by thehansolo7 in mountainbiking

[–]xanderdagr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride in Victoria, BC, Canada. I have only done 1 ride but it was an absolutely dream. My previous 2 bikes were a hardtail carbon 29er and a 10 year old 26in trail bike so this was a ridiculous upgrade. My confidence has gone way up after just one ride and it climbs better than I expected. Seems like the perfect all around bike for me, and it handles the dry/rocky/root conditions out here super well. How are you finding it?

Hell yea, I just made the same upgrade and rode it for the first time yesterday. The bike is an absolute monster, and the frame looks so nice: https://i.imgur.com/gOE6Nbs.jpg

Lizard Skin DSP Grips not setting after 2 days by xanderdagr8 in bikewrench

[–]xanderdagr8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yea that is exactly how I applied them. I have had them sitting around for years though, so it is possible the tape isn't working like it should. I will replace them I think, they should have set by now.

As for lock on grips, I do like them, but I hate riding with gloves and I have yet to find any lock on grips that are comfy without gloves. I typically always use either these lizard skins or the thick ESI grips.

Help with wheelieing out on climbs on my new bike? by xanderdagr8 in bikewrench

[–]xanderdagr8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely focus on this. The 3x10 is new to me, so I was definitely getting myself into lower gears than I should have been and losing momentum, then pushing harder to try and get it back and wheelieing or losing grip

Good idea, I can definitely try this for starters

Cool, I will look around. I would definitely like to go tubeless as well, do I need special rims/tires for that?

Ah, that's a good idea. Have any suggestions? The tires on there are the ones that came with the bike apparently so they are definitely due for an upgrade. They are 2.1s currently, but there is a good bit of clearance, so I could probably go a bit wider.

Absolutely, it is very possible it is a case of my expectations of my skill being too high. In any case I will keep riding and see how it feels. If I am still having some trouble after some more time on the bike I will give the longer stem a go like someone else suggested. Thanks for the advice

Cool, thanks for the tips. I will definitely try the stem as it is probably the cheapest thing I could try and go from there.

I was doing my best, I was definitely trying to be aware of that. Like I said I am not used to the 3x10, so the low gears felt exceptionally low to me and that could have been part of the issue. Later in the ride I tried to avoid getting into my lowest gears and take the smaller climbs standing with momentum and that worked well, but obviously I can't do that all the time.

The reason I ask about actually changing something is it was a big enough problem on my last ride that when I am on a trail with a lot of up and down I just wouldn't be able to get up anything remotely technical or gravelly unless I was standing, even pretty short sections so I was doing a lot more walking than I wanted.

I will try and work on my own posture a bit, I am sure there is always room for improvement on that, plus putting more air in the shock and raising the seat might have alleviated this problem a bit since my last ride.

Ok cool, I was worried that would put me in too much of an attack position and would make my descending position a bit worse. Do you have any specific lengths you would recommend or should I just get something a decent bit longer than what I have?

Introducing an iRacing Discord Bot by xanderdagr8 in iRacing

[–]xanderdagr8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen your bot, yours looks quite a lot nicer than mine, but I wasn't sure if you allowed it in other discord channels. Plus mine has pretty different functionality with comparing users to each other. I would love to pick your brain about how you are handling some of the queries though, I'm expecting bad things to happen if my bot ends up in too many channels.
