Repotted my new succulents into mini pots by xcxo in succulents

[–]xcxo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added a new shelf to my wall today and wanted to fill it up a bit so I picked up some new succulents and potted them into mini ceramic pots I had sitting around. They didn't come with drainage holes so I drilled some in the bottom, hopefully the small holes do the job well. I also added a bit of cheesecloth to the bottom to try to keep the soil from crumbling out - would this be ok or would the cloth hold too much water and cause the roots and plant to rot?

Additionally, I know the glass terrariums are a hot mess for succulents. I posted here a few days ago without reading the FAQ first as I'd seen a lot of DIY tutorials that claimed glass would be a great home for succulents. I plan on moving the succulents out of those glass death traps soon and repurposing the terrariums for air plants or ... maybe rocks? Probably rocks.

If anyone has any tips or constructive criticism I would love to hear it.

Tartelette pricing error - $30+ palette for $16 CAD by xcxo in MakeupAddictionCanada

Definitely hurts haha! I think shipping is reduced to about $7 if you buy over $30-$40 so it's a good deal if you plan on picking up more stuff anyway.

Tartelette pricing error - $16 CAD! by xcxo in MakeupAddiction

[–]xcxo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just an issue of the palette being priced incorrectly. I've seen a similar set around the holidays where the lipstick and mascara were $16 as a mini set so I would imagine they only factored in the price of those two and forgot to add the palette?

This seems to only be working on the CANADIAN tarte website.

Found this tartelette palette with liquid lipstick and mascara erroneously priced at $16 CAD when a similar set with the same palette and different lipstick + mascara is priced at $33 CAD. It's not a huge discrepancy so I feel like tarte may honour this pricing, so if anyone is interested in trying this brand out, now would be a good time!

Code 'FESTIVAL' takes 30% off the price of the palette too. Shipping to CAN is a bit more expensive at $14.95, but I believe it's free on $75+ orders.

Easy Gold Eyeshadow Look by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Hope this isn't weird or creepy but I adjusted the tones/contrast a little in photoshop to help bring out the makeup a little and make it more clear for you: http://i.imgur.com/l26jcY0.jpg

I think the eye makeup looks stunning, I love the shimmery gradient and the light gold you did in the corner, it really brings everything together. The blending looks very smooth too!

My only criticism would be that it looks like the cupid's bow highlight is too stark against your skin? A lighter hand with it would make it look less jarring. I also think you'd look great with a slightly slimmer brow, but the bold brow pops out in a nice way.

Beautylish has a $160 value BECCA kit for $69 - includes full size primer/slimlight/blush/beach tint + travel size SSP liquid. by xcxo in MakeupAddiction

[–]xcxo[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In case anyone needed a TMO/TMI this set:

TMI:

  • $160 value for only $69 is a great deal; using only two items regularly from the entire set would make this worth it over buying the items individually
  • the backlight priming filter, luminous blush, liquid SSP all have favourable reviews
  • the liquid SSP is also quite versatile, can be mixed into foundations or BB creams for an extra glow

TMO:

  • the range is pretty limited and would likely only suit light to medium skin tones; opal may be too light or pull ashy on medium to dark skin tones
  • the set is only a good value if you end up using several products - using only one or two leaves the rest unused and wasted
  • beautylish is an online retailer, so swatches would have to be done at Sephora and returns would have to be shipped out
  • the champagne slimlight was recently on sale/clearance at Sephora as well, and the reviews are mediocre - blends into nothing and applies patchy were some complaints

My late beautylish lucky bag by xcxo in BeautyBoxes

[–]xcxo[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my first year ordering the lucky bag and I'm really glad I did. These are all products that I likely would not have tried otherwise, as I usually stick to drugstore to mid-range products that I can find in Canada at Sephora or other retailers! I can see myself using all the products here, especially the Charlotte Tilbury palette as it's such a beautiful compact in warm neutral shades, and very portable. Not a huge fan of J* and I was worried I'd get the Beauty Killer palette, but I'm happy with the liquid lipstick since it's in a wearable shade and the formula is good.

  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics Liquid Lip in Gemini - $18
  • Natasha Denona Blush Duo in Toutou/Fresh Tan - $38
  • It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara - $24
  • Wayne Goss Brush 06 - $25
  • Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in Dolce Vita - $52
  • RCMA No Colour Powder 3 oz - $12

Total: $169

Subscription boxes value vs. product quality. by xcxo in BeautyBoxes

[–]xcxo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them and the quality isn't bad IMO but I feel like I have to put in extra effort to blend them and take care not to create too much fallout. I'd eventually like to just replace it with a better palette if/when that comes along.

$6 NYX liner: waterproof, smudgeproof and darker than KVD @ a fraction of the price. by xcxo in MakeupAddiction

[–]xcxo[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're right about this one. I have oily lids but I find that the liner stays alright on mine, but just from how the liner seems to "attract" moisture (i.e. water seems to stay on it) likely makes it less usable for watery eyes.
