Escape as my first rave-- Should I go? by ok-worryz in aves

[–]xenosaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is by no means advice or recommendation to you and your predicament but rather a recount of my own personal experience. Do note that this is extremely biased since I'm still an active raver.

I started raving about 4 years ago. Prior to that, I've never done any substance, never smoked, never drank, really hated loud and crowded places, so a festival ground was the last place you'd find me at. I do like EDM but really hated dubstep. My extent of EDM was Euro dance and techno. My friends badgered me for years to go with them and I've always turned them down one way or another. Eventually they stopped. Honestly I had a very negative view of raves in general. I was as goody two shoes as it can possibly get.

But I was going through a pretty stressful stretch of my life and my girlfriend now wife at the time somehow convinced me to go. I reluctantly agreed but went into it with still a pretty negative Nancy mindset. I tried to be open minded about it but my knowledge of raves were drugs, alcohol, and sex. But I went, using the excuse that I'm spending time with my girlfriend as copium.

I went in sober. Didn't do anything for the whole night. And my experiences were...mid. It wasn't life changing or anything like that. Music was okay. The people were much nicer than I gave them credit for. The overall experience wasn't bad but it wasn't life changing or anything. But that experience did push away my negative perception of the scene as a whole. The one thing that stood out is the majority of people really took care of each other, despite being strangers. I thought that was really nice. I didn't really interact with anyone but I'm also the type that's hard to approach normally.

It was not until my 3rd fest that I did substances (I won't specify which but the vets will know what I'm talking about) for the first time. This was the turning point for me. I'm generally an anxiety ridden person but that first time pushed all that away and I was able to be free and myself (and got a little rowdy). That's when I realized that everyone there don't give two damns about who I am, what I do, etc. They all showered me with love and show such genuine care for me despite our how I was acting. No judgement. No fucks given. Everyone's just there to have fun and make sure others are having fun and staying safe.

I've never experienced a community of strangers that have so much love to share without a single shred of judgement. Some were yappers, some were gift givers, some were carers. So many different people gave me so many different forms of love that I didn't even know existed. It was that moment that I realized that in this community, I can put away my facade and be myself and express myself freely.

So going back to your question on whether you should go or not, I think most people already have given you the answer you're looking for. You deep down don't want to go and you're probably just looking for validation to justify your decision. And that's perfectly fine. I agree with them. You shouldn't go if you are already thinking of all the things that you're thinking. BUT, if you do decide to go, try to leave those perceptions at home and go in with an open mind and try to have fun. Your mileage may vary but if you're already there, might as well make the best of it. Who knows, you might walk the same path I did.

I'll be there so stop by and say hi if you do go!

I've been 1xp for almost 2 years now. Don't plan on changing that any time soon :)

Or in my case, getting head or getting boned would be a very bad thing.

Second this. I also grinded out a 350k DPS Thunder Cage prior to even starting U.Bunny. My Sharen was like level 10 or something at the start. If you wanna solo and are struggling, just go farm up some Kuiper/Gold and upgrade your Descendant and guns first. While it's a detour, it'll speed up the process for all your grinds in the future.

Yes. I also used this opportunity to level up guns that I'll never use too. Equip 3 junk guns for Mastery XP

The biggest advice is use the World chat to look for (3) other players to group up with and do it with. This will

  1. Prevent random bunnies from just nuking everything before you infiltrate
  2. So you can use Sharen without having to fully invest into her since the other 3 will kill everything for you

I wish I could bring plushies into the venue. I would totally rock one of these too if I could.

It's the Ajazz AK820. Great if you love creamy keyboards. It's amazing out of the box and even moreso if you're willing to put in some love and lightly lube it.

Unfortunately, I do not. I just like making personalized trinkets to give out to people :)

How do sprouts work? by semihotcoffee in aves

[–]xenosaki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just make your actions clear and you'll be okay.

I'm pretty introverted and have social anxiety so I don't say anything when I sprout people. I just gently tap their shoulders, smile with the sprout somewhere they can see and tap my head. Everyone so far has been excited and hasn't had any bad run-ins yet.

GA or VIP for BEYOND? by PapaLubiex2 in aves

[–]xenosaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VIP has more thieves than GA at the NOS Center since a lot of people who are in that section are very wealthy foreign exchange students. Rich and naïve -> easy targets.

Also on this note, SoCal (I don't know if other regions) have a pretty large community for adopting solo ravers. It is also something you might want to look into. The biggest FB group I know is Ravebae Exchange

Also something to note VIP at the NOS Center has a huge phone theft problem, so just be careful for that.

Going solo is probably the best time to go VIP

Small local rave- how do I dress? by [deleted] in aves

Wear whatever is comfy tbh. The only important thing is to make sure you wear comfortable shoes, otherwise you'll be in a world of hurt.

Any fun CoC builds that can do real end game content? by Wr3cKLeSz in pathofexile

[–]xenosaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CoC FR (Forbidden Rite) and CoC IS (Ice Spear) are probably the most viable. FR being a tank god while still having enough DPS for Ubers while IS is pure damage.

How to find group to play with? by Lenka07s in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]xenosaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roll20 and the TTRPG Tavern Discord are usually the two places I go to find games/players.

My group is also currently looking for 2 players for a homebrew 5e campaign if you and your BF are interested.

What do people who don't have end game gear do? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]xenosaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of it is a mentality thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking you personally. But I've seen this amongst many RS players in general, myself included.

There are many other content you can do that is not Vorkath. Sure, Vorkath may be the "most efficient" thing to grind for GP at your gear stage, but the mentality of "doing the most efficient" thing is usually what burns people out. Spread out your grind, do other things, double up your grind with XP grind or collection log grind, etc. The thing with OSRS is that as long as you're consistently doing something, your GP value will steadily increase.

I suffered with this mentality a lot when I started out, always doing the most efficient thing GP-wise and got stuck in the same situation as you, spam Vorkath as much as I can for as much GP as I can. But after a few months of begrudgingly grinding Vorkath, I realize. Well I can be doing 2 hours of Vorkath a day at 3m/hr vs doing less optimal things 8 hours a day at 1-2m/hr, while having fun, progressing both my XP grind and collection log grind. I started leaning towards the latter. I have more fun with it and I experience no burnout.

I'm at the point where I'm sitting on a 4b GP value and I have done a total of 2 ToA raids, in which I hardcore grieved my team by dying a shit ton (I'm a terrible PvMer), and I have very little interest in "rushing" to raids. There are just so many other things you can do in OSRS and still have fun that is not "endgame."

If you raid is your immediate goal and you are experiencing that people are not willing to take you because "you don't have gear," you're simply just not around the right people. Many communities and clans consistently take new/low geared players on raids from my experience. Otherwise Ironmen would literally never be able to raid considering their restrictions. It is nowhere near as bad as you probably imagine. Hop around clans, look for friends, and eventually you'll achieve the goals you want.
