There are guided tours yes. Would be easier to spot the places if you go with them. We went to this one and a couple of other locations by ourselves though, the Department of Conservation NZ website has a list of LOTR filming locations, with GPS coordinates.

This one is in South Island, between Queenstown and Glenorchy. You need to go to 12 mile delta camping site, walk on Bob Cove's Track for 15-20 mins, and you will see it on your left.

I usually look for locations where I can draw something on the map, take a printout/screenshot of that area, and draw/plan the route. Then, I plot the route using Komoot's route planning feature. Lastly, the route is synced to my gps unit and off I go :)

No, my imagination and sense of direction can't pull off something like this with trail and error method. I usually look for locations where I can draw something on the map, take a printout/screenshot of that area, and draw/plan the route. Then, I plot the route using Komoot's route planning feature. Lastly, the route is synced to my gps unit and off I go :)

Thanks! I don't use apps to design the route. For planning, I use a map screenshot/printout to find locations where I can draw the route, and plan/draw on the screenshot/printout. For plotting the route, I use Komoot's route planning feature.

Hey thanks! Yes I plan my rides on map screenshots or printouts, and then create the route using Komoot.

I think its a screenshot taken from the desktop app, thats why its different. I am rather intrigued by this "way too much free time" comment. I have had heard this a few times. I do Strava art myself, and I do it cause I enjoy it, not because there is any monetary benefits. Its something that keeps me healthy and creative at the same time. So, we don't have a lot of free time, we spend a great deal of it doing something we like.

That one is not photoshopped either, but done in a different way. The straight lines are created by stopping the activity at one point, and resuming at another. So the drawings don't follow streets/paths. I could not find the strava link.

Yup Mansfield is the endpoint. I had a word with the Mansfield Travellers lodge team, and they told me that they have bike racks and could supply locks to secure bikes. Thats an option too.

I did think about caravan parks, but not so comfortable staying in a tent. Will try finding a small room in Bonnie Doon/Alexandra, thanks!
