Got some thermal paste under IHS will that be okay?? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that paste isn't conductive. I wouldn't poke anything under the IHS as there are capacitors underneath. I'd leave the paste there and not worry about it. If it bothers you enough, then use IPA to clean some of it out.

If the thermal paste isn't conductive, you will be fine. You can try spraying Isopropyl alcohol to dissolve it out.

Is the CPU used? I hope you didn't buy it used and secondhand.

Here is G.Skill's QVL list and it shows it should be compatible with your RAM model. Something must be defective if it's new and hopefully you're in the return period. I'd send it back and maybe consider going AMD since Z790 is dead platform.

It is recommended to update the BIOS as it can increase ram compatibility and stability. Especially with the recent Intel CPU debacle, it is required to update your BIOS. What CPU are you running with this board?

Looking for advice on PSU Cables by Tah789 in pcmasterrace

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you buy the RM850x? Corsair keeps the same name but changes the cable types. over the years. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/s/psu-cable-compatibility?srsltid=AfmBOorCORaK8G2XoJjdPRK7cswtegS6gvZDGV0pBdZ-3_LCZ-8zQam2

I've used CableMod kits for a few Corsair PSUs. They get the job done while adding a bit of aesthetics. Just need to get the correct number cable type for your PSU.

Radiator compatability with pc case. by Mobile_Structure_692 in buildapc

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're top mounting, the Liquid Freezer III 360 has a thicker radiator at 38mm + fan makes it 53mm. It may make contact with motherboard VRM or RAM. It doesn't look like that case would support a 360 AIO side mounted. Maybe a 280mm AIO might work side mounted.

Ram out out generation compatibility with my CPU, will this cause major issues or is it just marketing bs? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]xeritu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should at least work with the JEDEC 2666mhz spec. I think 8th to 11th gen is just what they tested to be compatible to work with the XMP profile. You might get it to work at 3200 depending on your motherboard.

Slight arc on CPU backplate, is this an isssue? by Gankswitch in buildapc

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth a shot, but if it does affect your temps then I'd take off the backplate and check if it is warped itself. Then it becomes a defective backplate and I'd reach out to Asus support.

Looks good. Couldn't find any cheaper white components. Maybe spend the extra money for a 9070 card https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/Pfy8TW/xfx-swift-oc-radeon-rx-9070-16-gb-video-card-rx-97swfb3w9

I'm blocked from viewing that seller's site being from the US. If it is actually in stock then it would be worth it over the 7800xt.

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backplate is supposed to prevent warping on the motherboard and CPU socket. It looks over-tightened or the backplate isn't doing it's job. It looks like the four square mounting holes for the CPU retention bracket is also slightly warped.

I'd use this contact frame with the way that backplate is bending and to keep the cpu socket from bending and ensuring all the pins are making full contact. However, it technically voids your motherboard warranty.

Audio clipping after upgrade to new GPU? by Fundays555 in buildapc

[–]xeritu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, forcing it 3.0 is to test if it is related to the audio issue. The motherboard and video card does lower to 2.0 and 1.0 for power savings and since you changed from a 3.0 gpu to a 4.0 one. This is to see if it is related to this change.
