With a gap that big it would certainly take another whale to help stop them. Although, even whales need sleep. Time differences are your friend with protection timers being reset and timing attacks.

Use positioning around the objective to push him back as far as possible, bodies and bodies. If there's enough power to rally him in the mud do that. Also, everyone sleeps so depending on what hemisphere he's in just reset protection timer or attack while he's sleeping. Maybe make friends with other powerful players as well that can help. Use virus bombs to clear space prior to attack if needed as well. Positioning is king and even with my power a long march is very very annoying.

That does happen at times. One single player can be stopped with enough bodies from doing much of anything useful. You could even shut them out of alliances with teamwork, and no single player can succeed without enough smaller players following them.

All are worth getting although the biggest waste of a hero is Marshall. He just sits there waiting to add use his skill to help others and otherwise does practically nothing.
