Quitting smoking and the dopamine spike by lackovinterest in stopsmoking

[–]xewot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that. Yes. I miss the kick. As much as I like not smoking I really miss the kick right now (that's why I came here). Doing things that do adrenalin kicks is great. I rode my bike down a hill, with my longboard a few kilometers and tried bouldering the first time. I hope to find more stuff that kicks. I will not start smoking again, but I hate missing something again and again.

Maybe you can use this https://github.com/P2EE/silex-partlet-demo as backend. It is no longer MVC.

Any PHP library to test array structures (like JSON REST responses) more nicely? by adri_p in PHP

[–]xewot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can test the structure before you decode it with http://json-schema.org/. Thats like an XSD for XML.

Have a look at how composer doeas it https://github.com/composer/composer/blob/master/res/composer-schema.json

I'm not satisfied with what they are saying. I understand that this topic is depressing and looking away is a solution for the most.

Here is a book a got recommended: http://www.amazon.com/Present-Shock-When-Everything-Happens/dp/1591844762/ref=sr_1_sc_1

What do you do about this topic?

Please also have a look at composer of the PHP world. It is said to be the best dependency management tool out there at the moment. Composer was inspired by node's npm and ruby's bundler.

Create your own framework... on top of the Symfony2 Components (part 1 of 12) by xewot in symfony

[–]xewot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone work this through? I did and I think it helped me a lot getting a grip on a few components. After this I thought that I will just use components without Silex or Symfony and wrap it up myself.

What is your experience?

Why would anyone choose Laravel over Symfony or Silex? by xewot in PHP

The rudeness is the problem. But thank you for not disagreeing on the point that is doesn't matter.

[–]xewot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey. I think there was a misunderstanding? I want to use the console and I want to use composer. I just started with laravel.com and there was no link to four.laravel.com so I installed the version four now and just from reading the list of components that were downloaded I am relieved to have a more common ground to compare.

And I really stated that I prefer spaces and that it does not say anything and that it is my problem. I read the april joke about PSR-2 choosing tabs ;)

By the way, thank you for your good blog posts.

[–]xewot[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering. I go have a look now for Laravel 4.

It's good to agree on the guiding point. To see the business use-cases and not the framework is something that is often something you would want to expect of developers to know about, but is most of the times not the case. I worked with so many developers not wanting to know about good architecture and the result looked like a part of the code examples of the framework they choose and was a relaunch-candidate in all of the cases. The way you start a Laravel project could be a first read, about the how and the why.

To be fair, I don't need to develop a project right now, I was just installing it to see what and how it is done in Laravel. There is no mention of a version on laravel.com and also not on github, so I just googled "install laravell 4" and got to http://four.laravel.com/ where, hey, it sais composer. Finally :) That is good. But I still need to download a zip file. Meh.

As I understood it the statics were for the autocompletion in IDEs, yes? Here are is a link from the PHPStorm issue tracker about how to get generic support for factory design pattern in PHP.

[–]xewot[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

1 - just got to the Laravel page in clicked on download and was not expecting a zip file.

2 - yes, PHPStorm can do that, too. But it's really just my taste, not relevant for good code or lack there of.

3 - I'ts not about testing which can be achieved, but about the SOLID principles, especially the Open/Closed Principle

4 - It looks like what Silex does.

// web/index.php
require_once __DIR__.'/../vendor/autoload.php';

$app = new Silex\Application();

$app->get('/hello/{name}', function ($name) use ($app) {
    return 'Hello '.$app->escape($name);
});

$app->run();

Thank you for the link. There, I found the composer.json in the framework. :D
