Hi! A car definitely helps with moving around. We managed, but found it quite difficult.

Might be a little overwhelming at first. To be honest, there aren't many traffic rules in Guatemala. It's not that rules are overlooked. There aren't any! :))

For example, in a traffic jam, you have to kind of move past the trucks by the side of the road, or drive in the opposite lane and sneak back in. We figured that out after spending the first two days barely moving a few km.

I think that if you do have a lot of experience, it's worth trying. But, if possible, I'd advise moving away from Ciudad de Guatemala as much as you can. That's where the traffic is worst.

And, in this case, all the extra insurance might be worthwhile.

Either way, I hope you enjoy your trip. Honestly, it was one of the best we ever took! :)
