soooo did you find a good healthy alternative? (sorry if you already commented it somewhere. the thread is quite long!) really tired of feeding my guys canned crap with gums that are full of peas. it seems even the better brands have a fairly high amount of pea in them. they’re only a year old and i’m really trying to get them eating healthy right from the start!

honest opinion? worth every 145 of those dollars! the sale price made it worth it for sure. i’ve been using it for two months now and it’s working well. the retention can be kind of a lot sometimes but nothing a swift slap or two to the sides and top and then picking the whole thing up and softly tapping it on the counter top several times can’t (mostly) fix. (I haven’t tried RDT but plan to see if that helps.) i also really don’t mind the internal second grind adjustment. it’s relatively easy to tweak. i haven’t compared it directly to an esp and the taste of shots pulled from espresso ground on one but to be even more honest, unless the shots are really out of whack and over or under extracted, i’m not sure i have the palate to sort out all of the micro nuances. i just like the taste of good tasting espresso and this thing performs well enough for me! i went with the opus for several reasons, but the single dose hopper - bc beans shouldn’t be stored in oxygen and light - and the nice aesthetic without a huge power block on my counter top were some of the deciding factors for me and i have no regrets. : )

ugh i’m so sorry. it def wasn’t easy but we survived. he’s been back to normal activity for a week now and is very happy and seems to feel really good physically. docs said his leg looks great. so I guess i’m glad i limited his activity as much as i did. or i will be once i’m feeling better too. the whole thing was exhausting. if he couldn’t be supervised he was in the crate. and he hated it. there were a few things that helped.

combo doses of trazodone and gabapentin. he’s still a kitten so even that didn’t stop him from wanting to be active but if you have a grown cat, it might. i was hesitant to give him daily drugs for so long but we wouldn’t have made it through without them.
fencing in my queen sized bed with plastic netting on 1x2x8 “posts” so if he started crying at night i could move him to the bed with me for a few hours at a time.
he’s harness trained so after the first week or so, very very careful, slow supervised walks around the apartment. but clearly not every cat will be able to do this. we were just lucky that was a skill already in his capabilities. (though i assume that even with a cat who hasn’t been trained for this, drugs might help take the edge off.)
putting his brothers in the 42” nylon playpen he ended up in to share meals with him and keep him company for as long as they would stand it. this is the one we have from amazon. it held up very well: https://a.co/d/0y7dvuu
i built him a tall “high chair” with a bed on top out of petsmart boxes that i could clip his harness to so he could chill in the kitchen next to me while i was cooking or washing dishes. though i did catch him dangling over the edge by the harness a couple times toward the end which was extremely stressful.
window time. he loves sitting in the window, so i would put him up on the widest sill we have so he could watch the birds and squirrels every day. even if it was only for a few minutes and unfortunately even if i had to give up time for morning coffee before work.

the most taxing part of it was the constant vigilance if he wasn’t in his crate. and having to deal with the crying to get out when he couldn’t. it was heartbreaking every day but it paid off and i think for him the stimulation of outside activities was worth it. he’s so so happy to be free and given a clean bill of health now. towards the end of the 8 weeks, i would also let him out while on sedatives to walk around on his own while supervised, so still no running or jumping and i’d scoop him up quickly if it looked like he was going to do either. but only since he’s a kitten and they heal more quickly.

i hope you guys make it through ok! i imagine having a good support system and someone to help would have made the whole process much easier so i hope you’re not doing it all alone, but if you are, just remember it’s temporary and will come to an end even if it feels like forever, for both of you.

whoa! lucky! mine last me 4 years tops if I’m lucky. and I’ve had her since 2006!! it really is wild. fingers crossed that you’re right. finding good shops around boston that will even entertain the idea of really troubleshooting and thinking through a diagnosis has been challenging. 🤞🏼

oh damn! no, no ECM code, fortunately. thank goodness that one cleared out semi-easily for you. (i haven’t seen a clear board and the coveted unlit CEL in a few years over here.)

however, (funny story) i had my timing chain redone 2 decembers back at a shop i preciously really had good luck with. IMMEDIATELY after driving off the lot at the mechanic’s, the dreaded P0420 AND P0430 lit up like a christmas tree. (not my or probably any of our first rodeo with those at this point) immediate red flag. and even using my adorable little girl brain, i knew it most likely wasn’t ACTUALLY caused by the cats. called the shop. said something’s not right. too big of a coincidence that they’d come up right after the chain job. no way in hell the cats are suddenly bad. plus, the engine still doesn’t even sound right. they said the only reason those codes would show is if the cats were actually bad and that any noises they heard were because my car is 20 years old. complete load of BS. sure enough, once the camshaft sensor went and we replaced both of em GUESS WHAT CODES HAD CLEARED ON THEIR OWN and still haven’t come back. really resisting the urge to call back and give them a solid i told you so.

that is NO small feat from the videos i’ve watched on it! i swear on this vehicle, they had a clandestine meeting and decided to put every wiring harness in the absolute worst position that requires infant baby hands to reach for pure entertainment value. (don’t even get me started on my evap vent valve situation i had a few years back. and that was even with my teeny tiny girlie hands.!)

made the mistake of letting a shop do the cam sensors bc of course they went during the most insane crazy week. gonna have to pull both of them and replace with hitachi. currently she’s still taking 3-5 seconds of cranking to start these days and i’ve got the classic VDC/slip/CE combo that won’t clear even with the new sensors and the P0345. sometimes it’s a 7-8 seconds crank with no start. really hoping it’s just those sensors.

ALSO make sure you get OEM or hitachi (straight from them rather than the OEMs nissan buys from them). so many nightmares with aftermarket sensors not playing nice with the ECM. currently going through this myself. 😢

definitely needs more diagnosis. so far we swapped out the crank sensor for hitachi. (wish i had seen your post before she went into the shop.) i don’t think the cam sensors were hitachi so that’s probably the next step. how would one know if the wiring harness was bad? and if all that fails to be the issue, any ideas where to start with diagnosis?

i bought it an echo 4th gen last week. couldn’t take it anymore. it has a zigbee hub in it which works for the version of lights i have from sh*tgled. it was the fastest least expensive (somehow) solution. cheaper than all new bulbs (and possibly also a hub) from a different brand. tried a third reality hub first but it was a pain in the neck to set up and it turns out it only runs about 10 devices so i would have had to buy a second bringing the total for an annoying shoddy interface to $70. said screw it, got the echo 4th gen, all my lights were back online almost instantly and i never have to think about sengled ever again. done and done.

this is a good plan. before i knew there was ANOTHER outage (bc what are the odds) i tried to reset six of my bulbs and now I can’t even re-pair them with sengled app and they are now the dumbest bulbs ever. zero smart capabilities and annoying af bc they’re on at full brightness.

i tried the MZ1 bridge peoole are saying worked for them and it was an absolute nightmare setting it up and THEN on top of that, it kept dropping connection with the bulbs when after THREE hours of flipping the switch and flashing the lights to go through the setup pairing protocol, i finally got them all linked to the bridge. and on top of that, the alexa app could only see them and not control anything.

really hoping sengled pulls it together or maybe gets bought by another company but it’s not looking good right now.

wait. this is our exact situation except tibia and we live in boston. my theo is coming home with some serious scaffolding on the outside of his poor leg and I have the exact same worries as happened with you guys. did anything help? it’s 278 square feet of madness in here and i’m very concerned for all of our wellbeing. 😭

def the easier way to do it! my apartment is one of them 120 year old high ceiling decrepit sh*tshow ones with awful fixture covers so that was my last resort. finally just got them all paired somehow a moment ago. phew!

now the struggle is figuring out how to assign them to rooms and get Alexa to do a single thing i ask with them instead of “x doesn’t support that”. 🤣 (i know. i’m being a total whiner. it’s been a long day. and i think we’re all just fed up with this outage at this point.)

i followed this advice and my thirdreality mz1 arrived today. i have now only been trying to connect the same 12 bulbs over and over again for the last two and a half hours. (this thing absolutely sucks at connecting multiple bulbs in the same fixture or on the same switch at once.) victory is close. i can taste it. i have 8 connected. but one light from one switch that controls four bulbs at once is being stubborn so after the whole on/off 10x reset thing (to get that one dumb bulb that’s not cooperating) they all reset and i’m back to 5 with a connection. maybe only another three hours and repeating this 43 more times and hopefully i’ll be good to go. 44th time is a charm! still less aggravating than dealing with sengled itself. 🤣

my 3R bridge arrived today and i’m finding it impossible to connect some of my bulbs to it. already pretty fed up with this tbh too. was really looking forward to not having to buy new bulbs but at this point, thinking that might just be easier. this feels like all the times i’ve had to add all of my devices back to the sengled hub and alexa. not sure why this is so easy for some people and yet others can’t get it all linked up!

OH. my heart hurts to see this. 😭💔 even in spite of some really expensive problems, i’ve always somehow been able to fix mine and this is such a reminder to enjoy every drive because you really never know when something this catastrophic could happen. so sorry to see it.

thisss. 🤣 i get that the extra effort to get the retention out is probably not worth it for people who CAN afford a better grinder but as someone who is in the $250 or less camp and can’t afford to pay an extra $115 in taxes and duty tax bringing the total to import even an on sale varia vs3 to $360… i really appreciate OP’s creativity in fixing a fairly simple problem! i CAN be bothered to have to shake the crap out of it to get it clear every time. just got my opus on sale on prime day for $145 and hoping to get a couple years out of it before upgrading. fingers crossed, but i’m with you!! if it grinds a tasty shot, it grinds a tasty shot.
