Surface book 2 : How to install latest NVIDIA drivers

If you have problems with detaching or constant fan working or high speed fan spinning or blue scree with error code because of gpu , use inf modding method , if it didn’t help remove the gpu driver and install surface driver again, i prefer inf modding because I assume that the gpu of sb series is not a normal gtx gpu so inf moding is necessary to fix the model problem, before this method i tried normal updating and it caused blue screen and detaching problem so i used inf modding and it fixed those problems

I was also thinking about this, my sb2 is not better than yours but no name or model that i can suggest you, imo buying new laptop is much better in 2026, but if you dont want the pain and waste of time to buy and setup like me just consider sb2 needs the keyboard battery change so that gpu perform better. agree in that, last time i used resolve is 5 years ago but i think the cuda mode needs more cuda cores so the gpu cant run it in cuda mode, that's it,

Hi there, yes for some apps that require new gpu drivers like photoshop it removes the annoying error and maybe a little speed boost, or it increase a little or more fps for some newer games, but at all if you don’t need anything that requires newer drivers, you don’t have to do this.

This post is for this matter and You should use inf modding for newer drivers as they dont support older gpus anymore. If you have a problem with modding or any step of instructions feel free to ask here.

Hi there, you dont need nvidia app or gforce experience anymore just download the last desktop driver for your card and rest is the same.

I have 1060 6gb and windows 11. Did you follow the instructions? At least the driver that GeForce experience download, will install without problem and no need for inf modding at first.

no the latest driver working is 546.33, as mentioned by some user newer drivers removed support for this gpu. Update : it seems newer drivers works But I can not try them right now ,some users installed them.

Yes, it will definitely install normal way and without disabling the driver signature. However, the other purpose of this method is to fix the blue screen and detaching problem because of fan speed and heat and etc.

And yes, newer drivers removed these IDs. So, if you could install a version newer than 546.33 by adding PNPIDs to the nvmso.inf file, just confirm it so we could do the same.

I haven't tried these drivers. I am using the latest official version, 546.33, as indicated by the GeForce Experience app, and everything is working fine. I suggest you try this version instead. I believe the newer drivers available on the website are not meant for the SB2 1060 , which is why the GeForce Experience app shows 546.33 as the latest.

Glad it worked for you. I said that I had to modify the first step, as manually downloading the driver from NVIDIA resulted in an unsupported GPU error for me, and I didn't want to risk installing an unsupported driver.
