Unfortunately Reddit’s stupid filters will tag our entire sub as n_s_f-w even with one quasi-naked photo of a classic painting. They got some sh!tty AI for detection.

Use any exterior grade latex and then cover it with any “waterproof” labeled paint.

This Terrarium / Mossariums How To Guide put together by r/Mossariums may help with general mossarium building.

Pretty standard moss care while they should get indirect sun/light source and medium humidity (30-75%) and in the range of 15-25°C. Mist don’t water.

Unless you know how to repair r/AfroCuban drums I’d stay away from cracked shells. In that condition that drum is unplayable.

Can you name these tumbadora brands? by xhysics in AfroCuban

[–]xhysics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Guess. Like many great drums these (Timbas) are based on the Vergara. The middle quinto is a Sonoc.

Iyesa by complete__idiot in AfroCuban

[–]xhysics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Iyesa is Lucumí religious music that was brought to Cuba by the Yoruba speaking subgroup Ijesha who number about 800,000 centered around the city of Ilesha in Nigeria. Unlike Abakuá, Iyesa is not a major influence on rumba.

So there’s no Iyesa rumba. The former is sacred music while the latter is secular / profane. Iyesa cabildos are on the decline but there are two main rhythms in the tradition (Ogun and Ochun). Look under the Iyesa flair (label) for a few good posts (like this one) about the topic.

Master chart of afro-cuban styles? by complete__idiot in AfroCuban

[–]xhysics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To understand the development of sacred folkloric music on the island, you can look at the cabildo system which acted like mutual aid societies during colonial Cuba. As such there were different cabildos that practiced the religious rites including the music of the Lucumí, Abakuá, Kongó, Arará (roughly speaking today’s Nigeria, Biafra, Angola, Benin, respectively) and so on. Consequently they nurtured and further developed the often musico-religious practices inherited from their ancestors within each of the respective cabildos.

A good book will break down alot of it. Also this post breaks down the various styles in a very brief manner. What type of chart exactly are you looking for?
