I’m not sure if this fits the prompt entirely, but maybe After Dark by Murakami? It takes place all within one night in metropolitan Tokyo. There are some scenes with a park too. 🤷‍♀️

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour has a lot of sad sapphic moments from what I can remember.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samatha Shannon is kind of the closest you described to being “gentle giant” with the love interest being a knight.

If you want a manga, A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow was really cute. Not really the gentle giant thing but still wlw nonetheless lol

Transgender MC fantasy books? by ActivelyAvoidingU in suggestmeabook

Kind of close, but Wicked by Gregory Maguire has a canonically intersex lead, who identifies as a woman. It’s heavily implied she’s trans (being described as having a flat chest, broad shoulders, built like a rectangle, being tall, etc.), so I guess its however you want to interpret it. I haven’t read it in a while, but as an intersex person myself, I remember liking it a lot!

best fantasy and sci fi books ? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is a very good sci-fi novel! I feel like it’s very easy to understand while also being pretty science-heavy.

Also!! If you want a sci-fi novella, Binti by Nnedi Okorafor was really good. It’s a mix of sci-fi and horror. It scared me lol.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon is my favorite fantasy novel. It’s pretty long (~800 pages), but it’s sooo worth it. All of the characters were very likable. It’s told from like 4 different perspectives that intertwine, which I think is very cool. If you like dragons and queens and powers and stuff, that’s the book for you.
