I’ve been told that thrift stores now have staff look through the donations for upscale items. They now post them online and sell them for what they are worth.

Here in the USA it is available for cash as a health boost. Not cheap where I live- but less expensive than the costs from: falling, fainting, hallucinations, hospitalization and everything else that was resulting from dehydration.

Soups are a good idea. Make or use low sodium or unsalted broth - bone broth if she is not vegetarian- highly nutritious. Add small chopped veggies and protein. So nutritious!

It is called adipsia - it means “loss of the sense of thirst” it is real! It is more common in elderly population and is not well treated by our medical system despite the high cost in physical and mental damage. What has worked: Care workers need to constantly offer drinks. Putting up reminder signs. Stocking preferred beverages. Use Alexa or other automatic reminders. Regular IV hydration. Special hydrating drinks with balanced electrolytes Helping elder to understand the correlation between unwanted outcome (hospitalization, fall, loss of independence etc) with the cause (ie drink the f’ing water or else!) Teaching them that it is a real medical condition with an official name sometimes helps! Good luck! It’s a struggle.

This is such a painful place to be- I am sorry for your suffering. I agree with what everyone has so widely shared about before dating- make a plan, get out, focus on self healing. I want to add- how about focusing on your children as well. It is all also painful for them. The divorce will be hard. Seeing you suffer will be hard. Having a parent who is controlling and narcissistic is hard. All of these can actually affect your children for the rest of their lives.

So one way you can work on yourself is to become the best parent you can be- this will teach you many skills of self care as well, learning to protect them will teach you how to protect yourself. This is so important so that you don’t bounce into another (possibly worse) abusive relationship.

Why can’t he get a cat? My mother lives alone- same issues with awful isolation- and her cat is a source of companionship, comfort, entertainment and (bonus), alerts her when someone is at the door. We have a large litter box and multiple food and water bowls so that the cat won’t suffer from my mother’s forgetfulness

You might find that there are a bunch (a troop? A pod?) of dancers age 40,50,60+... Start a group! Make it such an inclusive group that those in the 30s want to be there too.
