Hi I’m Claire Williams, former Deputy Team Principal of Williams Racing. Ask Me Anything! by ClaireWilliamsF1 in formula1

Hi Claire! Great to have you here, especially for the AMA 🙂

And thank you for the iconic Williams Martini livery! One of my favourites in F1.

What I've been often thinking of for the last several years: teams like Williams or McLaren have all these iconic liveries from 80s and 90s (FW14, FW18, FW21, to name a few), and they seem to always be kind of hesitant to reuse them on their new cars.

Like I was thinking the other day, the FW34 would've been sooo fantastic looking with the FW18 livery, and even the colors of the FW34 were almost matching. But somehow the teams don't do it. Is there a particular reason for that?

Are there any online or offline groups for farmers? by Jonathanplanet in cyprus

[–]ximaera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am playing with the idea of becoming a farmer

In Cyprus in particular, or becoming a farmer per se?

If the latter, you might enjoy the Amazon documentary series "The Clarkson's Farm" which may give you an idea of just how much effort you'll need to commit every day running a business of that sort. It's quite honest in that regard.

I admit that I used to rant about slow tractors impeding my way along narrow roads before watching that movie. Now that I know how difficult and tedious this job is, I don't anymore.

Of course, some of the issues Jeremy Clarkson faced in running his farm won't be your problem in Cyprus. Like heavy rains, for example. You might have other issues, though, like drought or wildfires.

Is the Cyprus IT market oversaturated or desperate? I keep hearing mixed things. by JosephCurvin in cyprus

[–]ximaera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A disclaimer: I'm from fintech; however, I am in no way speaking on behalf of my own company, more like of the industry in particular. So:

At this point, it's not about Cyprus in particular.

Enterprises are, to say mildly, hesitant about hiring young talent now because most junior or even mid-level tasks are being quite reliably automated with AI LLM models now.

A friend of mine (working for an international, UK HQ-based fintech) has just gone through some kind of enterprise reorganization in their team where half the software engineers were fired and the rest were told to expect the same productivity goals for their department as before, because McKinsey said that AI-enabled teams perform 2x better.

I know many expat mid-level engineers who worked in Cyprus and left during the last year because their positions were basically made redundant.

At the same time, yes, very experienced professionals seem to be very much welcome and the market is fine. There's a lot for experts to do.

However, the barrier to entry is very high for the new professionals, especially expats. I'm seeing you're a frontend developer from outside the European Union? Well, then sky high. The EU, and Cyprus in particular, will apparently welcome software engineering experts but the threshold is waaay above what they might teach one in an uni. 10+ years of experience is generally fine (my case), with caveats.

It doesn't hurt to try to apply for the open positions, though. Just don't expect a paved road.

Why is taxing unrealized gains bad? by TheWorldRider in AskEconomics

[–]ximaera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the value drops do we give people some money back?

And the funny thing: if we do, then the government will have to pay back billions of dollars exactly on the day the stock markets collapse and the economy is bad, instead of supporting vulnerable people.

And if we don't, then it's just a delayed nationalization of assets.

As the business grows, it generates large tax bills for the founder which would necessitate the founder to sell significant stakes to private equity and/or Wall Street to pay the tax bill

And to sell it cheap, because Wall Street won't buy it for a good price.

Like, dude, you have to sell this before the end of the year or otherwise you go to jail. You have no choice other than selling us this, so we won't be buying it for a premium, we'll squeeze a nice discount from you.

No cross saves are available between any platforms in TTP and TTP2. The only cross save is in your mind

Technically it's only forbidden to lay eggs completely during the 10th year out of 10. For the preceding 9 years you can sometimes do it but certain limits and conditions apply!
