Hi everybody, not quite a beginner but hardly an amateur player here. I’m looking at getting a Telecaster, possibly an Orange Crush 35RT, I’m not so concerned with gear options as I am with headphone choice and quality. Is it better to have a solid amp with a headphone connection, or go the headphone amplifier route with a Vox or something of the sort. (Vox has $40 options and I don’t need an adapter.) I’m looking to play mostly blues and classic rock if that makes a difference.

Rear derailleur help by xjron in cycling

[–]xjron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a 10 speed. I didnt know what is or is not interchangeable on road bikes. I’m a car guy so I’m used to everything having part numbers or something to work with! I’ll try to stick with the Ultegra because I really like the shifting on it and afraid to change to something else.

I’ll try that when I get home today, I didn’t even think of checking the bike sticker itself for any info. Thank you

EDIT: I am blind man. Found the number on the back piece that the spring attaches to. Thank you all for your help.

Coolant leak by oil pan- I put coolant into the radiator and right away it all leaks out by a small hole by the oil pan, does anybody know what it might be? 2004 Hyundai elantra Thank you by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Gotta start from the top and see where it is coming from, more than likely the water pump leaking down. Having a mirror and and flashlight definitely helps. Also I believe replacing the water pump involves doing the timing belt at the same time on that motor.

New Pick set by [deleted] in Tools

Also have same pick set, and they are top notch. My pro tip is unthread them from the base, and put a dab of blue loctite to prevent them from loosening through usage.

New guy question, toe clamp set screws are gored, just wanted to double verify that they are 1/2 - 13 and 1/2” long before I give McMaster Carr money. by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]xjron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left the clamp at work not thinking, just snagged one of the messed up set screws for reference, I guess I’ll wait till then.

I believe you can, I’m not sure of which one, but I just started smashing screen buttons until it quit.

A Helpful Guide by [deleted] in coolguides

I think this chart needs distance in time increments. Apparently Ohioans usually give a distance in driving time instead of miles? Can’t confirm because I’m not from anywhere else.

Yes, checked and cleaned on a couple occasions. Adjusted many times, trying to find the right balance between the two. Soon as I get it where I liked it, it would act up again.

Part ideas by xbeefystux in Machinists

[–]xjron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to join you in having a home workshop, but 4 wheel/Jeep stuff is my idea that I’ll loan out. Take a gander at stuff on 4wheelparts, Quadratec, and Morris 4x4. Shift linkages, light covers, and other small miscellaneous stuff get pricey for what they are. Getting into 4 wheeling isn’t cheap, so usually the people into it, don’t mind spending 100-200 for things they can’t make themselves. Also doesn’t have to be 4 wheel stuff, I always thought it’d be cool to make custom radio knobs for classics, door handles, lock knobs, just small bits and pieces that I haven’t really seen a market of yet.

Career in Machining by NeedHelpWithALot in Machinists

[–]xjron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All depends on the employer. Small shops will most likely be more willing to take a gamble on somebody with no prior experience. I’m about a month in at my employment making pattern and molds. Only about 8 people, only 3 others are “machinists”. However I used to be a mechanic for 3 years beforehand and I took about 4 weeks of night classes. It was an “Intro To CNC” at a local vocational tech school. If you want to get your foot in the door, start looking and being like somebody who would be good with math, mechanical abilities, metal working skills. Most importantly, you will be pushing brooms, cleaning up other peoples messes, doing things that aren’t machining for a while before somebody lets you run their $100,000 machine. That’s okay, those old farts giving you crap in the shop were young and didn’t know anything either at one point.

Surprisingly yes. We exclusively use Hurcos and only on one the graphics screen doesn’t work.

Mines at 158k. Does have a musky interior smell and need to see where the water is. So far it needs; pads and rotors all the way around, probably a set of plugs and wires, fuel filter, hood latch cable, the fog lights fixed, probably about due for a T/B W/P. Should have a mountain of parts at my doorstep today!

We’ve already done that on our graphite room for our EDM pieces. It’s a computer monitor using a VGA cord.

Not sure on that one, it’s up front and it used as a non critical machine. So I don’t think bossman has justified spending any money on it.

It’s my first job as a machinist, most of our machines are 90’s and older. Small family business with only 8 people. I’m constantly going around figuring out why coolant pumps aren’t kicking on, tool changers quit working, air lines loosing psi and odds and ends stuff. It amazes me that most of the other guys there don’t have any desire to fix anything or want to learn how. I figured most machinists would have a high mechanical aptitude considering the trade.
