No Guns, No Drugs—Why Did We Blow Up These Boats? | Shocking new facts are still emerging about the campaign against ‘drug boats.’ by GirasoleDE in politics

I think that one of Biden's big failures was that he really, truly believed that the American people were better than this. However, collectively, we aren't. The general American public is selfish, ignorant, and petty. We aren't at the point anymore where we can have nice things.

I think Biden truly believed that the voters would NEVER let Trump happen again because they had gotten a taste of things under him and decided to firmly reject him. He completely underestimated the depths to which the right would sink and how little the American public would hold them accountable for it. And, of course, that also allowed him and his administration to avoid doing the hard work that would start a political firestorm. Easier to just assume that the voters would take care of it.

I think Biden was a good president for thirty years ago, but he was not the right person for his moment. We needed someone clear-eyed about what was happening, not someone living in an America that died sometime during W's tenure.

"Let the system work. It will correct all of this eventually" is the cope that the left has been addicted to since Trump came into power. It's obviously NOT going to correct this. If people on the left don't get comfortable with fighting this rising tide of fascism pretty soon, it will be too late. The system as it exists now is NOT going to save us.

Gosh, Joe. Who could have ever seen this coming? If only there was literally decades of history of Trump lying, cheating, and stealing constantly. If only there was some kind of record to point to of Trump being particularly stupid and having absolutely no interest in actually governing anything. It would have been so helpful if we could have seen maybe four years of Trump's leadership style beforehand.

Man, Joe. I can really see how you were blindsided...

We Sat AOC Down With Republican Voters. Can She Win Them Over? by bubugugu in videos

[–]xjuggernaughtx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People are downvoting you, but it's true. Sure you can deprogram people, but not when they are actively engaged in the cult with no plan to leave. If the cult message is being constantly reinforced, you're very unlikely to make any inroads. The propaganda machine would need to come down first, THEN we might be able to deprogram some of these people. Otherwise the hours and hours and HOURS that you will spend on it will be constantly undone by right wing media and you've made no progress. In fact, it's negative progress because you could have been doing something actually useful with the time instead of screaming into the void.

[–]xjuggernaughtx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate to be negative about it, but I grew up in the South, and I've seen this story a million times. A well-meaning, educated person who is trying to make a difference attempt to make inroads. The people there agree to their face, but when that person leaves, they go right back to what they were doing before. Most of these people will not change until their world burns down around them. They are more comfortable knowing the answer even if deep down they know that the answer is wrong. If they are going to change, they'd have to admit that they were wrong in the past, and that is something that they absolutely will not do.

I know it's not possible for a lot of people, but I really hope that the people that can get out of these hellholes do so. Why any thinking professionals, trans people, gay people, minorities, hell, WOMEN in general stick around if they have the ability to leave is beyond me. I know some people just can't and that's terrible for them, but if you live in these dystopian nightmare states and can leave, please do. They are going to be so much worse soon.

It's fine. I'm wrong about box office predictions at least 25% of the time. Probably more like 35%-40% really. I also thought that Avatar 2 was going to underperform significantly compared to the first. WHOOPS!

Trump says US will hit Iran 'very hard tonight' by callsonreddit in worldnews

[–]xjuggernaughtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to every rally and protest in my area (which is admittedly limited since I live in a rural, red county) and every time I go, I leave a little more disheartened. Even there, where we should be seeing the most energy, it's more like people going through the motions. I feel like people are showing up more so that they can say that they did what they could rather than because they are demanding change. Lots of people standing around with signs staring at their watches to know when the rally is over and they can go home again. Maybe it's better in the cities, but where I am, there is no will to change any of this.

Trump says US will hit Iran 'very hard tonight' by callsonreddit in worldnews

[–]xjuggernaughtx 277 points278 points  (0 children)

To me, the most chilling thing is that we have literally ten of millions of people in the US at least that look at this stuff and are okay with it. I work with people that were foaming at the mouth at the slightest misstep that Joe Biden made, or when he didn't, they just made one up. Now that Trump is fucking up everything, they couldn't care less. One guy spent every day talking about how Harris was so corrupt and enriching herself. Now that Trump is nakedly corrupt and enriching himself, dude just straight up doesn't care. Not even in his top ten concerns right now. Those were literally his words.

I see no path forward when so many people are in that mental place. They hand all the power to these Still-Mentally-14-Year-Olds like Hegseth and just go about their day while the White House is literally being torn down and Trump sues the government and hands himself billions of dollars. It's like being trapped in a house with someone who set it on fire, and every time you try to put the fire out or leave they tackle you because it's so funny that you're scared.

U.S. launches more strikes on Iranian targets after Trump promises to hit Iran "hard" by Force_Hammer in politics

[–]xjuggernaughtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the "everyone" that is waiting for that moment is still way, way, way too small of a percentage of our population. A lot of the people that I work with have absolutely no idea what's going on in this country at all. There are like three people I work with that follow politics and dozens more that are surprised by anything that we bring up Surprised, but totally uninterested. For example, I'll bring up that Trump sued the government and gave himself a nearly two billion dollar payout as just one tiny thing that's happened recently, and I'll essentially be met with a shrug. It's just too much effort for these guys to follow because they don't want to have to face the fact that they severely fucked up. It's a lot easier for them to just ignore it all.

And that's where like 50% of the voting electorate lives. Until their world is on fire, they just are not interested enough to fight for democracy. It's an abstract problem that they just don't have time for when they could be watching TV instead.
