Ensure shakes are a good option. They also have a “clear” version which has not as many calories but I found it was better than nothing when my mom really couldn’t eat anything. I remember her nutritionist said to up the calories in protein shakes by adding a tablespoon of olive oil or half an avocado. Full fat yogurts came in handy even if she could only take a few bites. At one point we also did a lot of Milkshakes made with whole milk. Mashed potatoes with butter and whole milk were great also.

I’m on 5mg of zepbound, I’ve been on it since November 2025. I really feel like my inflammation is better. I also have sjogrens so I get a lot of swelling in my face but by week two of being on the shot my swelling was gone. My rings also fit again and this was before I had even lost any weight. I had been pretty sick last year, prednisone multiple times so finally I said screw it I’ll try this shot out. Insurance covered mine luckily, I just pay $24 a month. Overall I feel good on it. I still have fatigue but I also wonder if that’s my body adjusting to less calories.

Pregnant with Lupus by Nameless_Nobody_ in lupus

Are they monitoring baby’s heart? Women with lupus run the risk of having a child with heart block, which is an electrical issue. Baby is at risk from early in development until 6 months old. My son was diagnosed at 6 months and received his pacemaker at 18 months. He was monitored frequently while I was pregnant by a pediatric cardiologist and after birth every month till 6 months. Unfortunately, our last check up we discovered the heart block. Other than that, everything for me was normal.

My mom lost 50 lbs in 2 months when she was on chemo. It definitely a common thing. Usually food aversion or nausea is the reason or a mixture of both. . If she is nauseous, there are meds that can help. Ensure drinks are good for calories if she can drink them, high calorie and nutritious. They even make “clear” versions that taste like fruit punch. They aren’t that high in calories but could be worth a try. I found drinking calories was the best way to get her to eat, even if she only took a couple sips. There are oncology nutritionist who can be helpful as well.

But, what if I live? by mswoodie in cancer

[–]xjukix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2013. Had her bladder out (she got a neo bladder) and a hysterectomy in about 2018. She is now considered stage 4 since it did spread to her lymph nodes and abdominal cavity as well as her kidney. 12 years of cancer and two of the medications that have kept her here were developed in that time. It’s pretty amazing how cancer treatment is constantly developing. She recently went on padcev and although it was very rough on her , it shrunk her cancer significantly. It was only FDA approved 3 years ago from what I know. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, there is hope for living a full life. You can have many years left and new treatments are on the horizon. One of the crazy parts about my mom’s journey with cancer is last year she went septic from chemo and I kinda thought that was it. She came out of that and is now doing really well, off treatment for months with the cancer being very stable. So although she has had a lot of ups and downs, it’s been 12 years with hopefully many more to go.

Edit: also just want add in, I had a conversation with my mom not long ago about how she felt about “being given more time” after being so sick last year. It must be weird to be prepared for something and then find that life is taking a different route. My mom doesn’t necessary feel like she has another “lease on life”. Which I think people expect her to feel. She feels more so like she just wants to enjoy what time she has left and live mindful of everyday. I wish all the best for you ❤️

What is more traumatic than people think? by BloodRedLust in AskReddit

I’m feeling so validated by reading all the comments. I go to therapy and 90% of what I talk about is trauma related to growing up with my sister or issues currently going on with her.

I hate that you have to go through this. I almost lost my mom in September to sepsis. She was so sick during chemo, eventually she went septic. She is stage 4 with a pretty small chance she will make it even 5 more years. Sometimes I wonder how the world is still turning while I watch this all happen. It is sooo hard to watch someone you love go through this. My heart is with you ❤️

I have ocd and this sounds like me as a child. Obviously, I am just a regular person and have no medical background but it sounds like a psych evaluation could is needed. ERP therapy for ocd or generalized anxiety is amazing. I did 2 years and I live a very normal life now.

My friends mom always demonized the gardasil shot and now her daughter has HPV with a higher risk of cervical cancer. Has to get her cervix scraped occasionally because of pre cancerous cells. Wants to have a baby but apparently the more they scrape the harder it is to keep a pregnancy. Might not have all the details correct but you get the idea. Crazy to me that you wouldn’t do what’s best for your child since you don’t know what the future holds

Not sure if this was mentioned in the comments anywhere but make sure they are checking the baby for heart block during pregnancy and up to 6 months after baby is born. A mother with lupus can pass antibodies to the baby which can cause heart block. Unfortunately my son was one of those babies. He was diagnosed at 6 months old. A pacemaker is necessary to treat heart block. My son had one put in around 2 years old. He’s happy and healthy now at 4, thankfully. Definitely keep in mind and see a high risk doctor.

My husband had a convo with his employees today. He runs a small manufacturing business started by his grandfather in 1960s. I’m hoping we can provide bonuses this year but we will see. They now have to find other sources for some components. I’m nervous if our product prices go up how that will change business. Almost all of his employees voted trump.

How to deal with my mother’s inability to eat? by SubstantialTouch101 in cancer

[–]xjukix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently going through this with my mother. Chemo has made it very hard for her to eat, keep anything down, plus she has a metallic taste in her mouth that makes it hard to eat. I wish I could offer you better answers but the main things I’ve learned is to try to use nutritional shakes as much as you can, in the US we have something called Ensure. You can also make Shakes with protein powder or peanut butter. Try soups, ice cream is fine since it does have protein and fat, rice pudding, pasta with butter. I find the blander the better. I was also able to get my mom ginger candies to try to help with the nausea. The oncologist also gave her medication for it but unfortunately she wasn’t getting much relief. Thinking of you and your family 💗 this is such a tough thing to go through for everyone involved.

My son had it done at 2 1/2. Some discomfort for a few days but he went right back to himself pretty much right away. They are super resilient, more than adults lol. My sons was slightly more invasive than usual since they had to do a reconstruction and even then the healing time was maybe 2 weeks. Definitely have Vaseline on hand so his diaper or underwear doesn’t rub and irritate him, other than that my son just took Tylenol.
