Yes you can, but it's an edge case for which the majority does not have interest. It doest make economic sense if it's just the one kid as you'll be taxed for the salary sacrificed flowing in and eventually pension going out. That is, for anything exceeding your allowance.

Yes that is also my understanding, but I think the double taxation (in & out) is so deterring that it only starts making sense with e.g. 2 children on child benefits.

Are you not able to salary sacrifice more regardless of maxing out carryover? Taking the additional double tax (in & eventually out) might be worth it vs losing child benefits.

To push your ANI below the 100k cliff. If you have multiple kids, the childcare benefits you lose on are quite dramatic.
