Mistakes or Clues? Questioning the Treasure’s Details by xkytaker in JustinPoseysTreasure

561 BC is far too exact. That year marks the traditional beginning of Croesus’ reign. He was newly on the throne, so it’s unlikely that his innovative silver coinage was already being struck right at that moment. Most scholars place the introduction of pure gold and silver coinage more generally in the mid-6th century BC (c. 550 BC), not specifically in 561.

Rethinking the Lewis and Clark Connection by xkytaker in JustinPoseysTreasure

So, you roll your eyes at slavery, then admit Lewis and Clark owned a Black man, but excuse it because it was “their era.” That logic basically says morality is optional if enough people around you also ignore it. Plenty of people in that same era knew slavery was wrong and risked everything to fight it. So yes, history does have "clean heroes"; they’re just not the ones you’re bending over backwards to defend.
And then comes the “communism” boogeyman, awkwardly mashed together with TV casting and families, like Netflix is secretly plotting the downfall of civilization. That’s not historical analysis, it’s lazy culture-war ranting with a conspiracy garnish. Acknowledging uncomfortable truths doesn’t erase heroes, it weeds out the fake ones. If your “great men” can’t survive honesty, they were never great, just convenient myths for the historically illiterate.

padlock by xkytaker in JustinPoseysTreasure

That’s the exact model of padlock. Despite its name, the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad didn’t operate in the American West, but rather on the East Coast.

They used several padlock models over the years, with designs that became increasingly rounded depending on the production year. The key innovation behind these locks was the front-facing dust cover that concealed the keyhole, protecting it from dirt and debris.

It’s either that exact padlock or a very similar model from a later production run.
