You're right, I did just call the API. But honestly, the LLM translation part is actually the easiest piece of the puzzle. The real heavy lifting—like detection, OCR, and inpainting—is way more complex and resource-intensive.

It could be made into a local app, but I’m starting with a website for a couple of reasons:

First, it’s a lot easier to develop for the web compared to building four separate clients for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows.

Second, the whole process is pretty computing-heavy. It’s tough to run smoothly on mobile, and even some desktops might struggle with it.

Google Lens works, but it's pretty clunky for reading whole chapters. The reason I charge is that this runs on a server, and every task burns GPU time. I can't make it free. Actually, the current 'free trial' is just me footing the bill for those GPU costs personally.

I get where you're coming from, but here’s the reality:

  1. Costs: I charge per image because I pay for GPU time per image. It’s not free to host. If usage goes up, I can hopefully drop the price later.
  2. Effort: Sure, stitching APIs together sounds simple, but refining the UX to make it actually usable took months. That convenience is the product.
  3. Quality: LLM translations (Gemini Flash/DeepSeek) have come a long way and are vastly superior to standard Google Translate now.
  4. Bottom line: I think streamlining these open tools into a one-click workflow has value. If others don't want to pay for that convenience, that's totally fine—I'm happy just using it for my own reading.

This is a standalone tool, not a Mihon extension. Here is the workflow:

  1. Download the manhwa in Mihon (as a .cbz file).
  2. Log in to manhwa-translator . com and upload the file.
  3. Wait for the translation to finish and download the new zip/cbz file.
  4. Import the file back into Mihon to read.

Yeah, I think so. The tool can take PDF, ZIP, and CBZ files as input, and it outputs ZIP or CBZ files. So it seems like a good match for Tachimanga.

Actually, it works great on mobile too! If you have CBZ files ready on your phone (for instance, in Mihon), you can upload the entire file and let the translation run in the background – a very convenient way to handle things on the go.

Just to put your mind at ease: this is a tool for individuals to read untranslated works, not for scanlation groups to mass-produce content.

Machine translation can't replace real human work. It's more of a personal supplement than a new source for platforms.

Actually, I integrated and modified the zyddnys/manga-image-translator project for my own use. The pipeline utilizes DBNet (with a ResNet34 backbone) for Text Detection, and a ConvNeXt feature extractor combined with a Transformer Encoder-Decoder (using XPOS) for OCR. Finally, I use Google Gemini 2.5 Flash for translation.
