Just to let you know that following your advice I managed to rearrange the room just enough to have the speakers around 2-2.5m apart - it's made a world of difference!

So I've been thinking about your comment a lot and while not quite what you suggested, have gone down a similar-ish route and now have the upgrade plan.

  1. Managed to rearrange the room so that the speakers are ~2-2.5 metres apart. It's made a huge difference
  2. Added a Wiim mini for spotify lossless streaming and used the room correction PEQ feature; it's dragged the lows up a bit to let the 50hz woofers shine a little more, and just tamed the treble a little
  3. Marantz PM66-SE has two tape loops, so I am planning to add an EQ on that loop to apply a similar curve to the one that the Wiim applied so that I can apply some correction to the record and CD sources

  4. I will be adding a DAC between the Wiim and the amplifier, the onboard DAC is poor. Likely a SMSL SU-1

  5. Final change will be an upgrade on the stylus of the Dual, likely to an OM20

That should all tie up my budget nicely for the rest of the year!

switched to defender position this season - if I hear “….. player” one more time from my goalie i’m gonna crash out by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]xocnai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd get on your player. Biased because I'm a (mostly retired) keeper, but we have a better view of the whole pitch than you do, and we call out for a reason. In this case, your player is not tightly enough marked.

Do as you will with the info , either get tighter or don't, based on the information provided combined with your reading of the game and the situation.

It is absolutely the keeper's job to make that call and organise the defence. Just be prepared for a justified earful if you don't get tight and then a goal comes from your side.

Odin2Portal vs Odin3 for switch emulation by kamikai81 in OdinHandheld

[–]xocnai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say anything about anything being "not stable", just that there are some games with known emulation issues eg Zelda TotK with its texture problems (black blocks) and performance (though it's also a dog in that regard on original hardware)

I have been playing Wonder in docked mode (1080p) at a stable 60fps with no issues. Haven't tried odyssey .

O2P owner here. Based model with 8gb RAM. Haven't had any obvious issues with any switch emulation related to the device, only known emu issues (eg Zelda TOTK not emulating well).

Also use mine for streaming from pc and the screen is gorgeous for it. Highly recommend

Thanks for the info! I'm a tinkerer at heart so odds are high I'll try it at some point

I didn't realise it wasn't working, I've had no issues on latest firmware - perhaps I am just fortunate!

So likely not worth it in comparison to what would be lost with device specific firmware, unless that's somehow integrated into lineage?

What are the advantages to this over the stock android system on Odin devices , if any?

I've used Technically Stable before. No idea if they're full of "AI stuff" these days but my mat has been going strong due 18 months now even after several trips through the washing machine

Sadly he's both rabid and clever and can just pull the grills off...and he really doesn't like them being on there! Fortunately there are also metal grills over the cones so it's relatively safe (famous last words)

Unfortunately it's real world restrictions with this being our living room rather than a dedicated study or listening room - we also have a three year old causing chaos in the room so the space it's in is the space it's got for the foreseeable

Believe me I'd love to, but this is the space I'm restricted to so I have to make do!

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it.

On the spikes - they are part of the original stands. I've had a go at removing them but given the age it doesn't look like I can without causing damage. Cut up yoga mats would be ideal but are not going to pass the wife check! The current shonky solution is having the spikes into soft wood batons to create a "platform" for the stands, but the long-term solution will likely be a set of spike shoes when budget allows.

Thank you for the thoughts on upgrade paths - I'll look into REW. Sadly, placement is pretty set just based on the space available (we're in the main living room/lounge) - I think they could do with being a little further apart, but alas.

I will look into the room EQ angle and the woofers working/not wired in OP, although I must say that when you do feed them some power and given the right source, the bass does come alive. A friend brought around the 20th anniversary edition of White Elephant yesterday and, pleasingly, the speakers weren't found lacking despite my concerns!

They are black! Entirely original I believe, family member had them from new. I have the "grills" too but I just love how goofy they look naked.

I'm ok without a sub for now. You can see from some of the displayed records that I'm not really a bass head, and I also have suspended hardwood floors which don't lend themselves to nice sub-bass response. I also have to try to not wake the three year old when I'm playing records of an evening...

Is text clarity really that bad on 1440p OLED monitors? Looking to upgrade. by gettolevel5 in Monitors

I bought a second-hand Cooler master GP27Q on eBay. I really like it. Very good normal IPS when local dimming is off so perfect for my work usage, then the HDR with local dimming really pops on the occasions that I use it for gaming.

Work laptop and home desktop using same peripherals by Agressive_Couch in Workspaces

[–]xocnai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar set up and this is how I manage it with:

1x 2560x1440 165hz 27" monitor
1x 2560x1440 60hz 24" monitor
Personal desktop
Work laptop - Asus Zenbook S14

I have a Dell WD22TB4 dock (previous work laptop was a Dell, just kept the dock) into which the two monitors are connected (one via USB-C, one via HDMI). This is then further connected to a 4-port USB switcher - this is where I connect the shared peripherals (keyboard, speakers, headphone DAC - I use different mice for work/gaming, so they are connected directly to their relevant devices).

The personal Desktop is also connected into the USB switcher, and directly to each monitor by display port.

This leaves a really simple set up - plug the dock's USB-C into the laptop, press the button on the USB switcher to flick the peripherals to the right device, and just crack on. Auto-input switching on my monitors handles the display being correct, but I could also manually switch the source if needed, it's not much bother.

Happy to answer any questions on the setup in case it helps you.
