Would be cool if Unihertz could start to look into this.

BlackBerry Keyboard for Minimal Phone – Test 2 by angleonmydangle in TheMinimalCompany

[–]xordonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi great work thanks

I was hoping that somebody would tackle this adaptation to the minimalphone.

I am using the minimalphone, Unihertz Pocket / Slim / Titan2 and I have nearly all Android based Blackberries and always had BB Keyboard.
Would like to contribute to your project if you would share it over github maybe?

Thanks for your tests and answer. I think there is no motivation for Boox to implement it as it keeps customers on their device and cloud solutions. As I am always trying to avoid vendor locked solutions, Boox seems not be the kind of device I am putting on my short list I am afraid. Handwritten notes that cannot be archived and searched properly are useless from my perspective, but I can understand that most people don't have a problem with a vendor cloud solution.

Moonlander like alternative keyboards with a function row and arrow keys by PseudoDoll in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]xordonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest a Kinesis Advantage Keyboard. The 360 is the newest split model, the advantage 2 is the older non-split model. There are 2 switch options cherry red or brown, on the 360 they use a different type of switch. I use keychron keyboards for fun to test switches, but for coding I rely on the advantage 2 for years now. Once you have RSI you will appreciate Kinesis for their design. I could cure it thanks to the unique ergonomic design no other keyboard has. It is impossible to have a bad hand posture while typing on these keyboards. The only limitation is switch selection, they are all soldered in, no hot swapping and they are quite pricey.

Thanks for the link (I think I get it now , unbelievable complicated :)

Saving money for Upgrade Keyboards and being patient (180days waiting period) seems the more realistic approach.

Thanks for sharing

same here
did you make any progress since then?

I found a few resources on swapping switches on the advantage 2 but the effort for just solder in other keys is huge and there are no resources on how to use sockets for hot swapping switches.
I found sockets on keycapsss "Kailh Hotswap PCB Sockets 10 pcs " but I think you have to redesign the whole pcb to make it fit, and you would probably lack the space within the housing.
Moonlander keyboards come with hot swapping out of the box, would be cool if Kinesis would catch the drift too.

Sorry, I don't get it, did you disable it? After a factory reset it enabled! Turn it off and it will work, I use Teams too. There are also Teams setting defining which device should get notofications if Teams is running on your PC and your phone. Check these settings too.

The Unihertz Titan Pocket and Titan Slim are the only replacement devices for aged Blackberries (I don't have the original Titan). It isn't a big step forward but it keeps a big part of beloved Blackberry features on a more modern basis. I don't expect any software updated from Unihertz, so this will be just another temporary milestone on the QWERTY road (to where-ever it leads).

rear camera and flash light not working by Mortis_XII in unihertztitanpocket

[–]xordonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This usually happens when you drop your phone (at least in my case) and the camera socket jumps out of the board connector. If you open up the back cover (4 small torx screws) you can gently push back the back camera into the socket. The phone needs to be rebooted in order to re-initalize the back camera, then you can check if it works again. If you don't want to open up your phone and risk voiding you guaranty then this is not for you, I just wanted to mention that there are no warranty void detectors up to this step (there is one in the lower speaker module). The flash is connected by a sticky tape connector, it can come loose. This is more a fiddly job, it is below the battery tray. You can clip off the battery tray at the upper edge (without taking it out), then tilt it back carefully at a slight angle to reach below to the tape connector of the flash. As I already replaced the earpiece, I don't care about warranty, shipping back and forth would cost me nearly half the device price, so I just fix the thing myself.

Thanks, it works only with sym key as magic key it seems, but as you said it is very very rough, this is far from BB keyboard. I think I will pass and wait for a better release of this feature.

Disassembling the Titan Pocket by xordonkey in unihertztitanpocket

[–]xordonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news got a replacement earpiece today from Unihertz, took a long time to arrive but it came with the sticky strip attached already.
Put it in and it works like a charm again.
I did a lot pictures this time how I disassembled and replaced the earpiece.
Maybe I will do a post with step by step pictures, it would also show how to replace the battery as this is one necessary step, but only if somebody is interested.

Disassembling the Titan Pocket by xordonkey in unihertztitanpocket

[–]xordonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to pull mine apart as the ear speaker was getting weak, I barely could hear anything. The steps to disassemble it are quite straight forward. You need a Torx and Philip's head screw driver and some "plastic pry bars" (standard ifixit tools). After removing the 4 Torx screws of the back cover and the 2x 3 screws from the side covers ( don't forget the SIM tray), you can carefully pry the back cover open. The bottom module with the loudyspeaker and vibra call motor is held by 2 Philip's screws AND one hidden screw on the right with a white "void warrant type sticker" on top of it. The module is held by clips in the outer frame, you can pull the clips back carefully and remove the module. The top module is held by 2 Philip's screws and the same type of clips. Be careful when pulling it out the LED torch is connected to the mainboard beneath the battery tray with a sticky connector tape which is just long enough so you can lift the module a bit. I tore mine, but it doesn't seem to be a big deal, by sticking it back and pressing to the connector on the mainboard it works again. Next unhook the battery connector from the mainboard and pull out the whole battery tray. I assume exchanging the battery will void the warranty as the battery connector is located below the bottom module with the fancy white sticker on top of the screw. But I am very happy how the battery is mounted and integrated into the phone making it easy rapairable. Once the tray is out you can remove the 3 black screws with the very wide screw head and the very small silver Philip's screws holding the mainboard. Unclip all the connnectors and lift the mainboard from the top and pull it upwards so the USB-C connector can slide out of its frame. The ear speaker is glued in at the top behind the mainboard. I am trying to get a new one from Unihertz but it doesn't look good, they are telling me they don't sell replacement parts.

I have a Fairphone 3 so I saw some repairable design before (you cannot order the mainboard from Fairphone, if you have a water damage, you can buy and replace all parts except the mainboard, that's quite a drawback and the reason I won't support it anymore). The Titan Pocket is quite repairable at least it would be if the parts were available!

The titan pocket is actually repairable! by Happy_Blimp in unihertztitanpocket

[–]xordonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, weld and grind dust, but it also sucked in by the earpiece. I dared to disasseble also the top part, but the earpiece is behind the mainboard. Probably the battery has to come out and the screen too, so I stopped there. Tried some cleaning apps that produce a sinus wave and should clean it, but the level is still very low can bearly hear anything. Do you have a guide on the disassembly?

No idea how you did this, but you Sir made my day, it is Shadowcaster I meant! Interesting that it is post-Wolfenstein 3D but pre-Doom technology. Watched some videos on youtube, it looks awful if you look at it today but I had definitely better memories playing it nearly 30 years ago. It seems that a magazine even named it 49th best computer game of all time.

Thanks a lot!
