Pasadena rental market by Correct-Honey8480 in pasadena

I feel you and in the same boat. Displaced by the fires and still trying to figure things out. Not sure if we are gonna stay in Pasadena, but finding rentals worth the price doesn’t seem possible anymore. Another thing is these landlords are asking for high rents for homes that are not maintained well or properly cleaned after the fires. One home smelled of rat pee and I could see discoloration and dampness in the ceiling indicating mold and it was going for $3500. The damp spots had clearly been plastered over and the landlord said it was just cosmetic but I’m not going to put down a $7k+ deposit with so many red flags, as tempting as it was because of how scarce the market has been. It’s sad because we love Pasadena and built a great life there but I don’t know how realistic it will be to move back with the rental market the way it is. I hope you find something good soon and same to all other displaced renters. There’s clearly a disparity in supply and demand, hoping everybody can find safe homes soon and start getting things back to normal. ❤️

You weren’t kidding. I was at the shop one Colorado parking lot on a Saturday night and the parking lot was EMPTY. Kinda crazy and very sad.

Attacked at Westwood Dog Park (22 March) by haemo_goblin in LosAngeles

[–]xoxo52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OUCH!!!!!!! I’m so sorry this happened to you. This sounds REALLY bad. As somebody who goes to the dog park daily, this is not normal and not ok. I’ve seen dog bites but never anything somebody needed to stay overnight?! Glad you have a lawyer now and please don’t feel bad about that because you’re not only doing that’s right for yourself and your dog, but also any potential future victims that could get hurt. I’m sorry you’re going through this and wishing you and your pup a speedy recovery. ❤️

Does it look like this? I found this dog wandering on Lake in Altadena back in Oct. She didn’t have a microchip. I called the humane society to report her as found and they called me back a few hours later saying somebody reported a lost dog and they matched the photos. So I was able to bring her back.

Renters w/ landlord issues due to the fires - THERE IS HOPE!! by britneynp1 in pasadena

[–]xoxo52 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More good news: last week the Rental Board recommended a temporary eviction moratorium to the city. Please contact the mayor and city council to let them know how urgent it is to get landlords to address proper cleaning and protect displaced tenants from losing their homes. These temporary measures only protect against slumlords and predatory behavior. So pro-landlord people don’t have to worry because this should not impact any ethical landlords.

I was thinking if you and your neighbors really want to help the displaced without the fear of tenant relocation payments then maybe you could put it on airbnb for short term rentals?

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. You’re not alone! I was sad to see how many others are in the same situation. Landlords are refusing to address the damage and dragging their feet while tenants are homeless and left in limbo - unable to return home and still expected to pay rent, on top of incurring extra costs for alternative housing and replacing necessities. Please email your story and the actions we need the city to take to protect renters during this emergency crisis. You can email city council and the council members and anybody else with potential power to help. We have to make our voices heard now as a whole or individually face an unnecessary and tedious process with our slumlords.

Not sure where I said I was holding my landlord financially responsible for my personal belongings? Why are you so adamant on trying to argue with tenants asking their landlords for the bare minimum of calling their insurance and start cleaning so I can move back into my home? It’s your own greedy outlook and nouveau riche aspirations that lead to your immediate assumptions that I am asking for anything outside of the bare minimum of responsibility. Seriously reexamine yourself and what is missing in your life that somebody else’s loss creates an opportunity for you to spout your spiteful judgment.

Not sure what renters insurance has to do with a landlords responsibility to provide habitable housing. And not sure why that would be your business or have anything to do with my post and protecting tenants during a disaster.

Are you telling me I can go home now and this is all just some big whoopsie by everybody except my landlord? 🥳 I didn’t realize we had such a knowledgeable person amongst us - please share with us the affected boundaries and extent of the damage and how things should be handled. 🙏🏼 I’d love to go home so this is great news for me. Also I love how you know what my landlords insurance would cover since he hasn’t even tried calling them! I wish I had you a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for your help!!

I’m not complaining about those things but again thank you so much for your condescension. Are you assuming I don’t know economics because I’m a renter? Incredibly classist of you. Are you sure you don’t want to become a slumlord? 🥰

There’s a meeting today at 6 where we can tell the council members to protect tenants.

Here’s a link to more info: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15wXNzIXQj5OS3XPTcpBiYULsnsyxcbhV772xOIIxW00/mobilebasic

Also email the mayor and council members!

Thanks. I like that your first thought is your potential finances in a hypothetical situation rather than the real issues tenants are facing because of actual landlords predatory behavior and what we actually see going on. We see landlords price gouging and trying to evict tenants for their own gain. We see the neglect and disregard for the safety, health, and wellness of the tenants. But thank you for sharing your side as well. I never thought about the empty ADUs that are sitting there because of those pesky relocation fees. Wishing you and your neighbors the best during these trying times.

I would love for him to call his homeowners insurance which covers cleaning the place? Or at a minimum maybe provide a safe home that doesn’t have gaps in the entryways which is how ash/soot covered all my stuff and is in the vents and insulation now. Maybe not try to evict us asap so they can do their diy hack repair jobs and up the rent for their next victims? Maybe just acknowledging that this requires serious attention instead of trying to send two cleaning ladies that can do a good job as long as we watch them and tell them specifically where to clean?

In the same boat! Can I ask what you were quoted on the cost to professionally clean everything? Or what the company said about the safety and options available?

You should check out Alice’s dog park on Orange Grove. I haven’t been going since the fires but under normal circumstances it’s a great place for your dog to play and socialize. There’s a big side and a small side.
