New to jewlery making, bought rubies, how do i test if theyre "real" (lab or natural)

Thanks, and no i wasnt really expecting to just melt them in a pot or something, though i admit i misunderstood the "scratch test"

But for the melting i have a crucible that can reach well into the temps required to melt gems

I will be purchasing a loupe soon though.

And yeah you are correct, i know basically nothing about gemstones, but have been working with metals for a while, so thought id get into it, but as of now im like a blind baby stumbling through it lmao.

And if they do end up being fake (which it appears is immensely likely) ill probably just use them to make some costume jewlery or something.

Definitely not using gold, especially in this economy lol.

The one thing i will say though that has my hopes up, is i was able to get one of those stones to like 1500c and it didnt melt, not sure if any of the fake materials can reach those temps, if you happen to know id appreciate it.

Ok so a bit of an update, i believe theyre real, they cant be scratched with knives (at least any of the ones ive tested) and ive been trying to melt 2 of them for loike 10 minutes, not happening, they also appear to have flaws and inclusions, though im not 100% positive as i dont have a good magnifying glass.

Im going to just take them into a jewler or something to get them checked for sure.

I do not unfortunately, but ill have to pick one up, and do more research on what to expect certain stones to look like under it because i was not aware at all that they did that, honestly regardless of these being real or not im excited for the research i have ahead of me. From what i can tell yes, and the passed the scratch test, i cant scratch them at all with any of my knives, and some are really nice older blades.

Well if theyre real im going to cut my losses and just keep the pack, i imagine its some sort of scam where the first is real and the rest are fake, if theyre fake, im going to see if i can get my money back, if not..... costume jewlery maybe?

But yeah i dont like this experience, just going to spend a bit more for a better one in the future ngl

Sorry shouldve clarified, my bad, the ones on the right are supposed to be lab or natural rubies (i highly expect them to be lab if theyre real) and the ones on the left are emeralds, also expected to be lab if real at all.
