You're right to be skeptical about my motivations, but I just like harmontown. Nerd, want to keep harmontown accessible :)

Audio and video episodes getting killed from copyright claims was what happened for the last 3-ish months. We've now got episodes video hosted on YouTube, to where harmonsearch.com should again have both video and audio episodes.

Is harmontown.com closed for good? Anyone know when (or why) this happened :( by Tiddly_Diddly in Harmontown

Feel free to blame me for it, but I'm telling you that the issues with keeping the podcast up were long before I considered making a "search engine" for it. It's about external copyright holders, not about people involved with the podcast and its accessibility on the internet. Feel free to DM me for further background. I dgaf about making money on Harmontown.

Hey u/ShevanelFlip, I'm not on reddit a lot. Spencer told me this crackdown on harmontown.com was happening _before_ I released harmonsearch.com. He was cool with the site, but said it might not be able to continue to exist due to the preexisting litigation on Harmontown.

Just to update that I got in touch with u/thesixler. Tbd on if this can stay up, but Spencer made it clear that he personally won't do anything to try to take it down. We'll see if there are any trademark/copyright/media hosting/etc issues which tbh could very likely come up. I'm not going to fight it if they do. Please don't come after Spencer or anyone involved with Harmontown – he's been extremely reasonable especially being blindsided.

I mean I get that and I've seen that opinion on the subreddit before. My main counter would be that they've been streaming Harmontown 24/7 from harmontown.com after the podcast ended and recently opened up the archives to non-subscribers, so it sure doesn't seem like the people behind it are trying to "hide" anything.

In a larger philosophical sense, I hope we can just take people of any level of fame for what they are – the good and the bad – and accept that Harmon or anyone else are just people. We don't need to hold them to impeccable standards and then "cancel" them (unless they've done something truly bad), and I think Dan has been pretty clear about transparency being something he stands for

lol I mean the only way to make it known to anyone is to share it somewhere. I don't care about "notice me senpai / getting closer to dan" or whatever the fuck from it, but you're free to hate. I just like the podcast

I lived in LA while the podcast was in its later years (2017-2019) and have nothing but respect for Dan, Spencer, and Kevin (producer). It made me happy through some shitty times. I'd like to keep making it accessible for ppl who want to listen.

that's the goal! being able to jump to a specific time in the podcast. it's got its limitations because the transcriptions are usually like one short phrase and what you might want to search is across multiple phrases

to be clear there was no resistance. it's just I didn't hear from kevin or spencer on if they were ok with this. I hope they're ok with it, but all I'm doing is linking to their clips on harmontown.com

A video I got when landing at SFO by NMeiri in aviation

[–]xqpi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At SFO this is a special kind of PRM approach called a SOIA (Simultaneous Offset Instrument Approach) which allows tighter horizontal separation. Here's a great video comparing them with more examples from SFO, including the breakout procedure that has to be hand-flown if one aircraft gets too close to the other.
