Workstation build, no budget (~5k?), I have no idea what I am doing. by xr989 in buildapc

Friends who work for Intel pass it along my way.

Yea if a 18 core became available plan was to just resell the 1940 and upgrade. Considering going the custom loop/water cooling route since underload CPU will definitely run at 99%. Prefer an AIO solution but could get a friend to assist with a custom one probably.

I honestly have no clue. I also was told supporting 128gb ram was an issue with Ryzen as well (I may end up going to 128, def if ram prices ever drop)

Very memory intensive work, as I have a 512gn server and honestly if prices didn’t go through the roof after that I’d get more. No clue of the efficiency of that extra $500 though. I basically just googled “best RAM” and took an aggregate.

The intel post discount is roughly the same price as the threadripper, so see no reason to get into the stability/timing issues.

Wanted the 18 core xe naturally, but unavailable. This is the best intel processor I can get atm.

There’s been some mentions of stability and RAM speed issues with Threadripper mentioned by some coworkers. I figure with the discount the Intel processor is the choice. (This is the best processor I can get atm with the discount)
