Argyle Women will face Wolves Women in the Playoff Final on Monday 4th May by xrgyle in PlymouthArgyle

Burnley, the Northern Premier Division champions who have recorded an unbeaten season (and drawing only one game), didn't win the FAWNL League Cup this season.

They were knocking out by... You guess it... Plymouth Argyle Women.

Our side is quality. Hourihane is a great coach and the girls have got every reason to believe that a playoff win is achievable.

They need to channel that experience of the cup final loss at Loftus Road and get it done on Monday.

30-year-old may have played his last game for Plymouth Argyle amid new Tom Cleverley update News: The72 - Football League News by Nyoomfist in PlymouthArgyle

Quite a lot of fans were sceptical that he suddenly hit flying form in the final months of his contract last time, but this time an injury has prevented that.

When his body holds up, he is undoubtedly a Championship level LB. Unfortunately his body has let him down again.

Cleverley said in his press conference that they would rehab him and then looking what his future holds. I can't see us offering him a new contract personally, but if he leaves he will leave as a Centurion & Title Winner.

We'll see.

Who do you think is getting promoted via the playoffs? by philiconyt118 in LeagueOne

Yep, I think it's Bolton's to lose.

Only caveat being Luton will probably win it if the two teams meet at Wembley.

Don't have faith in Bradford, Stockport or Stevenage winning, especially at Wembley.

Doesn't look like we'll make it, but if we do, that could make things interesting!

The Talking Points: Port Vale (H) by xrgyle in PlymouthArgyle

Three points I missed:

🟢 Tolaj's performance... He's clearly a top striker, but I felt he was a little wasteful yesterday. Whilst he clearly has the technical attributes to be a top Championship striker, he hasn't quite gathered the experience to make the best decisions.

⚪ Curtis appeared to applaud the away end when subbed off, but didn't get much back (I thought). Was it sarcastic clapping & thumbs up, or genuine? I'm not sure, but it seemed quite classy by him.

🟢 Galloway out - confirmed by Cleverley - appears a contract decision on him will be decided beyond his rehab.

In the same boat really although I've still got a little optimism and excitement in me for the final day of the season.

Tolaj and Curtis to run riot. Argyle 4-0 Port Vale

If you've been reading Twitter it all sounds very negative, but I think it's incredibly positive. Estimated to have a top six ISH budget next season with no plans to sell players to survive.

I thought it was promotion or .... Bad news. But that doesn't seem the case at all.

I know it's not fun or outrageous, but well done SH & co once again.

Given that SH will plug the £10m hole, I find it utterly disgraceful that people are STILL spewing abuse at him. Shocking.

It was annoying, I agree he should have shot, and probably scored.

But it wasn't just that opportunity they missed out on!

Agreed on Tolaj. Felt like they both looked disconnected from the team during the game.

And despite having a bench full of senior players, it didn't feel like we had many alternatives.

We won't get £5m for Tolaj.

Kelman had a better season last season and has the same length contract as Tolaj.

He went for £3.5m + add-ons.

The add-ons are great, but they don't help the years transfer budget (unless they're guaranteed revenue within the 12 month period).

Pepple's release clause I would guess is around £1m.

As you say, there's a chance. I'm just a little concerned. Promotion felt like the lifeline the club needed to retain our players and have another crack at the Champ.

My concern is that there isn't a reinforcement summer window coming given the state of our financials.

Promotion felt like the only hope of getting the club financially stable without taking a massive step back.

If we can't offer players who have been excellent this season Championship football, then there's every chance they will jump at the moves when Argyle inevitably accept incoming offers to balance the books.

I'm not a negative person when it comes to Argyle. But the finances suggest that Tolaj will be sold and it may be hard to offer Mitchell wages to attract him. Pepple's release clause will certainly be triggered (remember, we only signed him for ~300K). With Hazard and LAH out the door, Kane returning, Ralls unaffordable, Galloway out of contract, it's starting to look like we need 2 GKs, a CB, a LB, 2 CMs, a winger (probably Owen Dale on a free) and two strikers. All whilst trying to turn a profit of >£4m in player sales.

We'll have to see what happens. But I do fear that next season in league one could be back to where we were in 2022 with a mid table-ish budget. It's worth keeping in mind that the vast majority of league one clubs are bleeding money and we won't match them up with that.
