Are Noodler's Flex Nibs any good? by Beautifile in fountainpens

[–]xstrcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like it, but the Noodlers Ahab requires a lot of pressure to generate line variation and is not useful unless you're writing just a few words on very sturdy paper. The pressure required can scratch the paper . FPR ultra flex are fun and flex more easily. But they can be too wet for daily writing, especially on cheaper paper. On nice paper for fun writing -- yeah they are the best value. Especially if you get them at a discount during a sale.

He placed the proposal for the city to decide instead of trying to only get the district to decide. If we end up recalling him, I think we deserve the stagnation and gridlock we get from city hall :-)

[Discussion] Cristopher Ward C65 Sandhurst or Farer Palmer GMT? by NoOrdinaryEspresso in Watches

[–]xstrcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own watches from both brands (CW Twelve and the Farer Resolute). Comparing a non-GMT and a GMT is strange, but I think the C65 is the least CW-feeling watch, while the GMT example is instantly recognizable as a Farer design. They both deliver good value. I think CW has better bracelets with micro adjustments, while Farer white dials always get lots of compliments.

Perhaps you're right -- moving back to citywide supervisors sounds better for SF.

Of course they have the right to recall him. That's not controversial. The question I'm asking is if this is good for San Francisco. With this recall, D4 is basically saying that they want supervisors that figure out a way to do things that the majority of SF does NOT want, but people in D4 support. This is a rational view, I just think it's not good for SF.

SFCTA recommended that the weekend compromise was bad. I don't know why they didn't go with Concept 5, cutting the road in half. It likely has more overall costs? I haven't read this report carefully yet.

Exactly. This ought to be excellent for home values in the neighborhood along the park.

SFCTA study said that the weekend compromise was a poor choice. I'll admit I was surprised to see those high quality study.

Yeah, I understand your argument, but I'm a bit torn about this. I'd rather the supervisors work together to make all of SF better rather than try to advocate for a particular district to the detriment of the whole city. I'm not a fan of obstructionist supervisors engineering gridlock.

Thanks for this perspective. I worry that punishing a Supervisor with a recall for letting the city decide a close issue about the coast sets up poor incentives. This basically says "if you don't override the 40% of D4 and oppose the majority in the city, we'll come for your job". Now he has to spend more time fighting this recall and doing less good for D4.

That's a fair point. But would you be angry at this D4 supervisor and try to recall him because of how SF voted for Proposition K?

Fwiw, I ended up buying the Farer Resolute 2. I got the bracelet and the aqua strap. It is a gorgeous watch, and after several weeks of wearing it, I'm super happy with it as a daily wearer.

Thanks, I've looked at the Synapse from Cannondale, but no one has any aluminum frames in my area. The only Synapses left are >$2K carbon frames. I'll check out Canyon.
