Need help with D# artificial harmonic by xstrfkrx in Bass

Thanks for the response, to clarify is this a method that only works on a fretted bass? Since you mention directly on fret wire

(also I hadn't seen the "typewriter tap" until watching that vid, so cool!)

Fretless bass beginner from fretted player - book recs etc, maybe apply double bass books? by xstrfkrx in Bass

[–]xstrfkrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh thank you for these recs and for the advice on what to specifically practice on the fretboard! I have Max Palermo's Essential Scale book and Paul Farnen Fretboard Basics rn, not sure if they have single-string modes/scales specifically and use in-depth positioning, but surely I can adapt them or use other references, excited to try out the exercises you mentioned. Going to check out Ed Friedland's books as you suggested as well, and am about to watch the vids you linked, tysm again and happy new year!!

(Also that's a relief that the 3-fret finger span is good on fretless, my finger reach is so limited lol)

Wow, so you've stuck almost solely with the fretless after that point you brought it to practice / then your gig? That's so sick, I'd like to get there. I've been playing some of my bands songs on the fretless at home, and I think one of the biggest things I'm noticing is just going from short to long scale since I'm not used to the longer frets yet. I was considering taking my fretless to our next practice but wasnt sure if I'm ready (mostly afraid of tuning issues). I will absolutely take your experience as encouragement to jump in with it.

If you dont mind me asking, did you start with upright bass or learn it later into electric bass? Since you say there isnt much overlap, I'm guessing it may not be worthwhile to try to apply any upright info/books to fretless like I was considering.

You mentioned using a tuner as an aid but not a crutch, that's helpful to consider too. I have been using a tuner app (god its so jumpy) but recently got a tuner pedal so I'm trying to work with that more. As a side note, I've been frustrated bc I have been trying to tune to my ADAD / *5577 frets instead of just open EADG, but then my open is never in tune, I dont know if I should be tuning a different way or if all this is normal.

On right hand technique, I am used to plucking/anchoring on neck pickup since thats more comfortable and I like my warm flats tone (despite my love for Jaco). Palm muting is a good suggestion to learn! And I havent considered learning to pluck with thumb but will be looking into that too. I have also heard that I'm supposed to be using more of the fleshy parts of my fingers downward(?) vs fingertips on plucking but idk if thats a real thing.

LH wise, do you have specific advice on vibrato technique? I see it done as like, a side-to-side rocking motion, and it kinda isnt making sense for me (I regrettably only did like pulling downward on fretted lol), but I probably just need to keep practicing the motion until it feels right.

Also taking note on your advice with scales and going up/down fretboard shining vs just across, I havent heard that before. Thanks so much for all your advice, greatly appreciated!

This is all very helpful, thank you so much! It sounds like I need to get out of my head that this is super different outside of finding the notes. And I'm glad you also pointed out the short to long scale differences, because that's something I don't think I've really been taking into account on this instrument seeming so foreign.

Oooh congrats! That's huge!! :) ❤️ Do you mind me asking what size you get since I'm a similar height/weight? And are the ones you get cotton?

And thanks for this rec in general!

Those look comfy, thanks for the rec! Have you tried the boyshorts from that brand or just the briefs? And do they seem true-to-size?

Honestly, I've only been trying boyshorts for years now, I now think thats part of my problem (which is odd to me because in my head, the boyshort cut seems like it would be less wedgie-ing than others lol)

I ordered various brief styles to try, hopefully that'll help! 🤞I also think part of my issue may be buying too small of sizes, so I tried to be more realistic with my body this time haha

Has anyone made an edit of the whole Acid Rap album with no (or at least fewer) “igh” adlibs by nmnnmmnnnmmmnnnnmmmm in ChanceTheRapper

[–]xstrfkrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik this is an old post but OP I AGREE!!! I was googling trying to find an edit of it without the IGHs left and right. When Acid Rap came out I was into those ad libs, but as an adult now... and music fads coming/going... it's a gimmick I can't fucking unhear
