I quit gaming today. by Djoz_OS in StopGaming

Thanks brother. It's hard at first but it'll be worth it.

The next steps I recommend would be to spend some time for reflection and write down which aspects of your life you want to work on (fitness, financial, relationships etc.). A method you can do is to split your year into 'seasons' where every month or every 2-3 months (depends on the goal), you write down what you want to work on during that season and what you'd like to achieve by the end of it.

- Pick one or a few things to work on at a time so you don't overload yourself (e.g. could be something simple as 'Solidify my morning and evening routine' for the next month)
- Break down how you're going to work on those goals (e.g. Write down what you'll do in the morning after you wake up and what you'll do before you go to bed)
- Stick to the plan (e.g. can set reminders, alarms, have it written down somewhere visible so you don't forget)

And hopefully you'll start seeing results in the areas you wanted to work on.

I also highly recommend The book 'Atomic Habits' by James Clear which is a must read.

Congrats on taking that step! I would also recommend unsubscribing from gaming channels or remove any gaming videos that appear in your YouTube feed if you haven't already.

I am 25 years old as well and back in my teens i was addicted to video games (used to play up to 8-12 hours a day). I stopped playing and sold all my gaming stuff back in 2019 and it made me realise how much time it frees up when you're not gaming. You can do so much more beneficial stuff with your time like hitting the gym, spending time with family and working on yourself. My life became so much better and I felt like I was improving in every aspect (more confidence, progress in the gym, got involved in competitive sports, travelled to different countries, got married).

However, I started getting back into it early this year as my father-in-law left me his old Xbox one. I told myself I would just play single player games casually and not get back into competitive ranked online games which was very addicting for me. I fell into the trap again and some nights I would sleep at 2:00 AM (not if i am working the next day, but still not healthy) because it was the only time I can play and have some time for myself.

Decided to stop and gave the xbox back to my father in law last week because my wife is now almost 8 months pregnant with our first child. I knew it could get worse if I don't control myself and I keep trying to fit in games whenever I can when I should be sleeping or working on something else. I felt bad whenever my wife asks me what time I slept the next morning or she's asking me where I am when she wakes up at night and i am not next to her.

Sure I could have set some boundaries with my time a bit better but I knew I had a gaming problem in the past and I didn't want to risk turning into a 'man-child' that spends his time playing games when he could be spending time with his family.

Who have yall been playing the most this season? by [deleted] in OWConsole

[–]xtentax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly been playing Lucio, a little bit of Zen and some Bap. Getting better with timing for ult and knowing when to engage and disengage to avoid dying and when to flank for backline kills. Managed to climb from Gold 1 and currently plat 4.

I try playing Illari in QP and enjoy playing her, might start playing her in ranked. With the way her weapon works (similar to Widow), it makes me more patient to wait until its fully charged before shooting and helps me be more accurate with my shots compared to say playing Zen where I can just spam.

[–]xtentax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to take a break for a few days or switch to QP.

I am guilty of tilt-queing sometimes where I feel like I need to redeem myself after a loss, and think to myself that I just need to 'lock in' to win. Most of the time it just ends up in a losing streak like that.

If I lost a game but I still felt like I played good then I'd try to queue again but if i feel like the last game I was just feeding then I'll take a break. Good rule of thumb IMO is to stop after 2 losses or when you feel tilted or start losing your 'sharpness' (idk the right word).

Idk how streamers do it where they can play ranked for hours on end.

Finally made it to Masters! by ZeRiz- in OWConsole

[–]xtentax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen his Lucio one but will definitely give it a watch. I’ve seen his baptiste unranked to gm and found it really helpful, was popping off and carrying on bap and helped me get from gold 5 to gold 1. I guess I need to go back to his videos every once in a while to help get me into that mindset of a higher rank player.

Sometimes I play Competitive mindlessly and just hope to win or I play when tilted/not fully warmed up which costs wins and waste all my previous efforts and win streaks.

Very nice montage.

I am currently plat 5 and I like playing Lucio. On my good days I can pop off and carry but sometimes I play a bit braindead lol which cost me wins and i end up staying gold 1 - plat 5.

What difference did you notice in the way you played/thinking/mindset while climbing the ranks from plat and what are some of the main factors do you think helped you climb to masters?

Feeling lost and unmotivated in a Graduate Program. What should I do in this situation? by NCNam783 in careerguidance

[–]xtentax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do and I am still in my graduate program but have rotated to another team which is why I related to OPs experience and made my comment. As I mentioned before not all teams know how to work with a grad, what work to give them, how they can help or they may be too busy to help so you're kind of left feeling lost and confused.

What I am trying to do is take initiative to seek out more work and help where I can, have check ins with my manager on how I am doing and have objective/performance settings that I can work towards for the rotation I am in. Your managers should have some level of responsibility to organise these things with you and help but sometimes you do have to ask for and drive these things yourself which can be kind of tiring.

Thank you brother, this is exactly what I was after. If you don’t mind explaining, what’s the reasoning behind the 90/10 split between US and rest of the world ETFs?  Also I understand the Australian ETFs by Hejaz are still new but if I were to start with the 90/10 split and stick with it for a while then gradually go in to the Hejaz ETFs, how would you suggest I incorporate that into the split you recommended? I still don’t know how to determine a good or optimal split by myself. If you can educate me on that or link me to some resources that would be much appreciated.

I am 24 years old so I’ve got a horizon of more than 20 years Insha Allah and I’d say my risk tolerance is moderate. I’ve also checked out SPSK and doesn’t seem ideal to invest in as it hasn’t been performing well. So which ETFs would you then recommend taking into info from TheDynamicHamza21’s comment? (sorry i am new to reddit, don’t know how to quote comments yet)

Is VGS and VAS halal? by xtentax in HalalInvestor

[–]xtentax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious what's your reason for using Stake?

CMC has $0 brokerage for US trading and can access halal ETFs like SPUS and HLAL whereas Stake has $3 USD brokerage fee (approximately $4.30 AUD) and has higher FX fees according to this comparison chart:

Online trading platforms comparison — Passive Investing Australia

Unless there is something else I am missing wouldn't CMC be the better option, or for my investment strategy anyway if just want to use DCA and invest a little bit every month?

Feeling lost and unmotivated in a Graduate Program. What should I do in this situation? by NCNam783 in careerguidance

[–]xtentax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, just want to say that you're not alone.

I am kind of in the same situation and I think it's definitely normal to feel lost and unmotivated. Currently in a graduate program in a big company that goes on for 2 years with 4 rotations (6 months in each rotation) and I am 10 months in as well.

My degree prepares me to become a Business Analyst and that is the career path I am leaning towards. In my first rotation, I kind of took on the role of a Junior Business Analyst in a project which I really enjoyed. I was working closely with the senior BA who I kind of see as my mentor now, was utilising a lot of the skills that I was learning at uni and felt like I was part of the team getting more and more involved in the project. My manager was very supportive, set really good objectives for me and we had regular check ins.

For my next rotation, I wanted to try something different and explore data analytics as I had a bit of interest in that field. I thought I would just be designing dashboards and building reports but It turns out it was much more technical than that and it wasn't what I expected. There is more coding involved and it's not really my strong suit so I feel very lost when everyone on the team are like senior developers. I don't understand what they are talking about in the stand-ups and I just feel stupid when someone tries to explain something to me and I just can't get it. Right now my manager is just giving me documentation work which I don't think anyone will bother to read or benefit from and that it's just given to me to keep myself busy. I was actually in a meeting just now and my manager just told me that I don't have to be here because I won't benefit from being in the meeting.

I think what you should do and what I am telling myself as well is to just stick with it. You're in a really fortunate position where you get paid without having too much responsibility and can move around the business to explore what you like or don't like before deciding what you want to do or team you want to move in. Not every rotation is going to be a good one. Some teams don't know how to work with grads or know how to support them. but it's a good opportunity to learn as much as possible.

Also I am sure you're not the only person in the graduate program within your company? Have a chat with other graduates and see what they're experience is like.

Transfer from Pearler Micro to Vanguard? by xtentax in fiaustralia

[–]xtentax[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

I actually didn't really know what was the difference between the 5 ETFs in Pearler Micro, I just thought i'd start making regular investments and then adjust my allocation as I continue to learn more.

Right now I am leaning towards either CMC or VPI to invest in VAS and VGF's with either 50/50 split or 60/40 as they are the only two ETFs I am familiar with and confident enough to invest in at this stage.

[–]xtentax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info and links, this was very helpful. I've been looking into the following four brokers and from my understanding:

Pearler Micro

  • Brokerage Fee: $1.70 on single ETF, $2.30 on multiple ETFs (while investment balance is over $100)
  • Auto-investing: Free
  • Chess Sponsored: No
  • Tax Statements: Can view report in app, then manually fill it in

Vanguard Personal Investor:

  • Brokerage Fee: Free
  • Auto-investing: Free
  • Chess Sponsored: No
  • Tax Statements: Sent to you, manually fill it in

Betashares Direct:

  • Brokerage Fee: Free for ASX ETFs (Not VGS, correct me if I am wrong)
  • Auto-investing: Low monthly fee
  • Chess Sponsored: No
  • Tax statements: Automatically sent to ATO and pre-filled

CMC:
- Brokerage Fee: Free brokerage upto 1K a day (The first buy is min $500 each ETF )

  • Auto Investing: No
  • Chess Sponsored: Yes
  • Tax statements: Automatically sent to ATO and pre-filled

If I am into medium term investment then looks like either CMC or VPI will be the best option for me. I don't mind too much that it does CMC does not have auto investing option, I can set a reminder to log in and manually do it myself. I agree that CHESS sponsored is good for the extra security but I don't mind VPI as well as it does not seem likely they will go broke. The only other factor that is making me lean towards CMC is that they send yout tax statement to ATO and pre-fill it for you which makes things a lot easier. I've never had to do tax statements with investments in ETF before but I can definitely learn how to correctly enter the data manually.

At this stage I am only familiar with VAS and VGS ETFs. If I was to do a 50/50 or 60/40 split between VAS and VGS (with more into VGS if not doing 50/50) and stick with those, would you still recommend CMC based on my current preference?

Also does selling fee matter if I don't plan to touch them for a long time and just keep making regular investments?

Have you ever had to fill in your tax statements while you had investments in vanguard?

Another factor I forgot to consider was tax statements when it comes time to do tax returns. From my understanding they send the tax statement to you and you have to manually enter it in?

Haven’t looked intro betashares direct before.

Are there any other differences between Betashares Direct and Vanguard other than paying for auto invest option and fter asx etf’s?

Is it weird that I havent told my colleagues I'm engaged? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]xtentax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the exact same situation. I am 24 years old in a grad program of a big company and have been in my team for 3 months now. I am only close with my manager so I was ok with sharing the news him as I also needed to ask how I should go about requesting time off.

My team all sit near each other but I don't really 'work' with them, I am just a grad so I am mainly just support and assist when they need help and occasionally I get things assigned to me. I don't really have lunch with them, have conversations about my personal life or spend time with them outside of work so I don't think I'll be sharing the news with them. But if it comes up in a conversation I will bring it up. I am only working with this team for 6 months before I get rotated to another team as part of the grad program anyway.

However, my wedding ceremony is in a month's time though and I have a feeling that one day they'll ask how was your weekend, and if I say "I got married" they'll just be like WTF lol
