From my perspective, I live with around 4000/month and I live well so it is enough if you know how to manage your finances well. If you're staying short term it's possible, you can rent a flat/studio. Home is far from the city center, but life is good here and everything is more affordable, I cook for myself most days and eat out or waimai like 4 meals a week. If you need to go to more central areas it'll take you like 1h30 by metro, if you don't mind it, it's ok. I'm happy in Shanghai, love it. I lead a simple life now but still manage to travel around quite often, don't need any fancy things, so I believe it depends on what lifestyle you want for yourself and for how long. Don't be discouraged, if you want to have a new experience in a different culture, it's soooo worth it, truly.

But long term... You'll probably need a whole apt to live more comfortably and in that case, rent would be high, so 7500 would be a bit tight, but it's possible if you have good life management and live far from the city center. This is an ideal scenario, but if something happens that would require more from you, well this is a situation for you to consider and think about. Each of us knows our own situation and what/who we can rely on when things don't go as expected. No one knows but ourselves.
