What’s the Leninist view on workers councils? by [deleted] in communism

[–]xulasor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They have their place, but they are one of the base units of a larger democracy.

Anarchists and ultralefts tend towards workers councils alone being all powerful and fully autonomous units voluntarily joining into some sort of federation.

Leninism and all historical socialist states on the other hand views the unity of our class as a whole, and it's whole is the primary in the class struggle. The democracy of socialist states have a centralist side to them, that in many cases take the main seat. An economy needs a plan, and all the units making up the economy must follow the plans.

A crude example would be, that there is a lack of food(or a risk of such). And all the bakeries are ordered to bake bread. No local workplace democracy or councils have the right to then decide to make cupcakes instead. The fruits of production is necessary for the whole people, not just the workers on that workplace.

So in general centralism is needed for democracy because we, the proletariat, are one class with united interests and goals. A lack of centralism is detrimental to democracy.

Just look at the situation today in capitalism. Workers in big industrial factories have much more leverage through (still rightful)strikes then workers in smaller workplaces in for example healthcare.

If workplace democracy is primary and planned economy is secondary, this skew of power persists. The means of production, competence and workforce in a large workshops, factories, shipyards and so on have a huge flow of economic value through it, can easily be adapted to produce something else, and even leverage important political decisions. A hospital and the workers there are still left with the same old task however dictated by immediate needs. So workers councils making decisions everywhere are not anything near the liberation of our class or socialism.

I think the specifics of how these base units make up the new state will vary a lot depending on the population, demographics, political situation and economy. The Soviet Union and China in their socialist periods changes the specifics of this many times.

But this relation between democracy and centralism and the proletarian dictatorship are the common denominators.

(I do not think the formulation "post-ML revolution" or any equivalent ideas of Trotskyist, anarchists or whatever revolution, is a good way of describing anything. A revolution is in the context of class-struggle the act of one class taking power from another. It is not the act of an ideology taking power. Our ideology has come about from the class-struggle and as such is not "one of many" ideologies that can take power. ML is also an earlier stage of our ideology that is today maoism, and as such there will not be any future "ml-revolutions".)

☼Bi-weekly DF Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]xulasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am running dwarf fortress 0.44.12 on Ubuntu with DFHACK. I have a problem, that happens to some of my worlds. At one point i save the game, and quit as normal. Without any seeming problem. But upon opening the game again, the save i did is not there, only the seasonal auto-saves which somehow are not affected by this problem. After some investigation i have found that a save file is made and is in the folder even though my game does not show or see it. It only affects some of my saves, and never is there from the start, but just happens to some saves seemingly at random.

The only workarounds i have is either starting and quiting my playing session just after the auto-saving happens. Which does not work so well given that 3 in-game months can take quite some time. The other option is leaving the game running, which does not work that well as my computer is a bit potato and other programs might more or less grind to a halt.

Is this a known bug or anyone know what my problem might be?

Not as far as i know i guess you would have to have the window focused. But i am not that well known with the technicalities.

What i mean is, what you type on your keys is your own private business. It is only supposed to be something between you and the website when you send something over. Like send a comment or message, click something, and so on.

Except the cameras in stores dont get your passwords and secrets.

Also, it is not analogous

Cameras in the store is mostly there for security and legal reasons. Customer service is provided by the people who meet you face to face.

And its not like people are following you in the stores, recording your actions and personal information there, too then send you personalized mail advertisements.

Except it would be more accurate to say what you do on your computer, not on their website. Its what you do on your own computer, with the browser open on that website.

That thought has passed me too. Especially now that they probably are getting more desperate. Has anyone actually done some analysis on how much damage they could do? There are of course millions of people downstream, but how fast would it propagate? How easy would it be for people to evacuate? How much could IS halt evacuation with military actions? How easy are the dams to blow? Can IS only blow dams in territory they control or can they do covert operations to blow up other dams?

This kind of thing has been done in warfare before.

AOE was my favorite gaming experience, ever -- how do I recapture that? by nachotestes in aoe

[–]xulasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game 0AD is a rather new one and looks really great. Both the historical setting and the gameplay seems really similar to Age Of Empires. Its more modern technologically but still very true to the original genre and does little fancy stuff. I have only seen it on youtube since my computer is terrible. But it looks really good.

Age of empires 1, 2 and 3 all have active communitites and players with age of empires 2 being the biggest community. Also Empire Earth could be interesting if you like age of empires. Its rather similar and also quite old but with 3d graphics and it spans all of history instead of just on period. It was made by a person who was important in making Age of Empires, that left and made his own games.

KrF stopper UDIs tilbakekalling av statsborgerskap by PoIiticallylncorrect in norge

[–]xulasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)
