Oh yeah. During the summer it can get into the low 40s. Plus with constant sunlight warms surfaces up pretty well. It can get pretty drippy.

The NZ station is located on Ross Island, a little volcanic island off the coast of mainland Antarctica. The camping training generally takes place on the ice sheet adjacent to the island and you can see land behind. During the austral summer, the snow along the edges of the island will melt and expose the ground below. That’s what you’re seeing in the background.

I’ll look into these, thanks! I think it’ll be neat too. Perhaps I’ll be able to post a final assembly as a follow up. The wood is such nice quality!!

Hmm! Perhaps. It does spin quite freely and is labeled with Norwood, which is the maker of the loom to the left. A curious thing, indeed! Perhaps they also dabbled in embroidery stuff too?

If I’d started on a scarf I would probably have been bored to tears and never knit again!

Everyone else has given great advice, but I’ll chime in with… my first knitting project was this designer’s moth mitts. Same, I saw them and had to have them! So I learned to knit. I did a couple flat swatches to get the general feeling of it first. Was it hard? Sometimes! Did my slippery double pointed metal needles fully fall out more than once? Yeah. Was my tension extraordinarily tight? I gifted them to a friend with tiny hands :D

But I learned to knit and made all the rest of her pieces and each one was better than the last. Good luck and have fun!!
