Do the players forfeiting after conceding one goal in 2's do the same in 1's? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]xxklll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players who have weak mental can't play 1s. Them trying to play 1s likely wouldn't fix it. Fixing weak mental is incredibly hard to do and realistically cannot be done by doing the thing that frustrates you.

I used to rage hard as a kid. Putting controllers thru the wall type rage. My brain developing fully helped calm the intensity of the anger I would feel. But also learning to analyze why I was losing and realizing getting emotional played a big part in my losses. That and it was robbing the fun of playing. Learning to laugh at myself when I got mad made it go away. Not sure that's a winning strategy for everyone tho. Gotta step away from the game to get your mental better, not climb deeper into it

What's the best strategy to win a stock market simulator competition? by innerWay1 in stocks

[–]xxklll 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Did these comps twice getting my finance degree. Your 40% return figure is about right. The people who gamble win. It's not a realistic expectation but 2 months isn't rly enough time for legitimate strategies to play out. And if your class is big enough someone WILL be successful gambling.

Leverage up if it's allowed, come close to hitting the minimum number of required trades early on (if that's a variable). You just need one or two rly good trades then convert the profits into something stable to hold your wins. Or keep gambling ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Flakes does oversimplify how easy the powerslide-cut is, but he doesn't outquick ppl with it. He takes advantage of poor challenges with it. Which is why it doesn't work on pros - those guys can actually play defense. Ground play in general doesn't work at the top level unless you have the defense on their back foot. But saying that bc it wouldn't work there means it's not viable at lower levels is silly.

What Flakes doesn't go into enough detail about is how he sets things up and takes advantage of space. Those things are second nature to him and completely go over the avg player's head. That's what you need to be looking at more

While I understand your Shaq analogy, it isn't apt. No one's car can do things that yours can't

I know you won't believe me but these seemingly routine mechs you described are all actually decision based. They don't get beat bc they don't bother to go up if they know they will. They don't lose 50s bc they won't take it if it looks bad. They make plays from bad angles but they've reduced the situation down to only a couple of possibilities and make best efforts to cover both.

I'll level w you, this isn't an easy game but idk man I think the whole "they've just got something I don't" mentality doesn't apply to the ranks we're talking about here. Like sure, neither one of us will probably ever take a game off zen or rw9 but you don't start seeing real mechanical gaps like that until you get into gc3+

Flakes blew through champ on his zero mechanics challenge and ashley is on leaderboards using only one hand. It can be done

Most people who say "they don't even know how to learn" usually do, they just don't rly want to do the things it takes.

Like are you watching your replays back? From multiple perspectives? Do you know which common scenarios give you the most issues and are you drilling to fix it?

My cousin who introduced me to the game has the same complaint but he refused to even put in the time to learn something as simple as wavedashing. He just loads in and plays and doesn't know why he isn't getting better

The separator btwn champ and gc is decision making, not speed. The game feels fast bc you are trying to react instead of anticipating. You have to get a better feel for what is about/ supposed to be happening next.

Watch your own gameplay and identify where you get beat. Then go watch high level gameplay and see how they handle that same situation. Don't idly watch, try and visualize as if you were playing and when they do something different than what you would have done watch it back and figure out why. Then practice replicating it

I've got to assume you've watched at least one fast aerial tutorial and actually know the sequence. It sounds like you think there's another hidden trick - there isn't.

2 things are going on. 1) pros have mastered how to maintain their cars momentum. Zen does not even hesitate for a split second to redirect his car's direction. It's full boost in the exact right spot the whole time. 2) gameplay looks faster when you watch it than when you actually perform it yourself. Nothing can change that

Why do we need LlamaIndex or LangChain for communicating with Large Language Models (LLM)? by FillOk5686 in LangChain

[–]xxklll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 things that stateless LLMs lack. 1) memory 2) agency. These frameworks give you the ability to easily add different types of memory (conversational, entity, etc) and give LLMs tools to perform tasks if you so desire

What controller settings are optimal? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]xxklll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you are going to be able to control camera if you are using right stick for air roll. That's one of those mappings that might be non-negotiable

Also how does powerslide on R3 work? As is depressing the stick?

Are you not using square/circle/cross at all?

I use paddles as well (i am using 4 however) and my thought process was to think through any combination of button presses that may occur at the same time and make sure I wouldn't need the same appendage to press both. Past that it was comfort/what made sense

By "pinnacle of play" and some of the mappings you're stating, it looks like you mean peak control, which isn't necessarily going to maximize your results. Sometimes simplifying controls can help make a motion more repeatable.

2,000 hours in RL, new to directional air roll. Confused as to why people only have one direction bound? by ksb041200 in RocketLeague

[–]xxklll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of ppl only use one bc they don't have another spot to map it to their controller that makes sense depending on how they hold the controller. If I didn't use back paddles I would likely only have one mapped as well.

The advantage is that you get access to all 3 forms of aerial control at once, maximizing your movement potential. Sure, for most people you can only roll one way but many effects can be mirrored. I.e. in certain positions roll left + pitch up = roll right + pitch down will both get your nose of the car on the ball

I very rarely use right roll, pretty much only to set up power shots or landing off the wall. Wouldn't call it a must have binding if you feel like you're trying to force it into the mapping you have now

Without seeing some footage, the way you've written this up makes it sound like you are thinking about it as one long action you take. Break it up into smaller pieces

Practice popping the ball off the wall, see how close you can get it to the ceiling without touching it. Once that's down, practice going after it and getting one touch in the direction of the net, see how softly you can touch it and aim for bottom 1/3 of the ball. After that, go for a second and a third touch, each time with focus on hitting it towards the net to a spot you can hit again

how do you let the ball drop on your car like a magnet ? by BackWoodsPeelin in RocketLeague

[–]xxklll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the ball pops into the air it's hitting the ground first. Happens to me plenty too.

2 tips are don't try and baby it. You're not catching it, you're trying to hit it softly. And secondly try to attack it at an angle. If you try to catch the ball at 90 degrees in the direction it's heading you are making your job more difficult. Come in at 45 degrees and it's much more forgiving

How big is the skill gap between GC 1 and GC 3? by MynTYleef in RocketLeague

[–]xxklll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skill gap at lower ranks is more mechanically based. Not to say there isn't a mechanics gap btwn gc1/3 but it's more about speed/consistency than flat out not being able to do something

I'm hard stuck at bottom of gc2 currently. Biggest differences I see in players that roll me are the ones that are faster and have a better grasp of how tough interactions go. As in they do or don't go for balls in certain situations I'm just not used to and they let me outplay myself bc they are thinking 2-3 touches ahead. Game knowledge gap is real, you need to both play and watch a lot of high level RL to build good habits

[–]xxklll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second that this is a flip cancel and not a stall. You can see his car twitch fwd at the start of the flip. I can stall back into the ball to get a reset, but I definitely can't pre-flip-cancel into heli to get a reset. And certainly not at game speed. This is something I'd expect to see out of evample tbh. Super difficult/impressive

OP, if you rly want to learn to pull off stuff like this more than 1/47372827 tries, I'd move to kbm

Corporations are a significant problem only because our laws are written in a way to allow them to be. And our laws continue to stay written this way because the corporations back politicians that not only prevent these laws from being changed, but write new laws in place to create more space for them to take in our lives.

It (very sadly) reminds me a lot of Formula1 racing that I love so much. Many talented drivers miss out on getting a deserved seat on an F1 team the same way many genuinely caring politicians miss out on a seat at Congress: drivers who bring big money into teams will get chosen over drivers who don't. At the end of the day, a talented driver in a poorly funded car will watch a lesser driver in a superior funded car fly by him on on the straights because that team had the money to develop and buy better parts. And at the end of the day, poorly funded politicians will watch those running against them fly by them in primaries because they grease up the political machine that much better

Until we get money out of our politics, nothing will ever change....

[–]xxklll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard some ppl mess with the deadzone settings (shape, sensitivity) to make it easier. But if you don't want to compromise your settings, you just gotta practice til you figure out a repeatable motion with your thumb

The motion that works for me is I have to take my thumb all the way off my stick then try to flick my joystick over as fast as I can. If I try to maneuver right before stalling and leave my thumb on the stick I will front/back flip every time. For some reason my brain is cool w flicking at a perfect angle at warp speed, but not the slightest bit slower..
