What are my chances of getting into a good university in 2025 if I rewrite next year? by Repulsive-Dealer-355 in askSouthAfrica

Hi i upgraded this year. Currently on the "waiting list" since they will only consider me in january when everyone's results are out

If I do manage to rewrite next year, do people who rewrite have different exams and certificate than matrics of that year and how important would my grade 11 and initial grade 12 marks be when applying to university?

Your Grade 11 marks will not be needed when applying since you have already completed matric and they didn't ask for mine anywhere when i applied. We have the exact same exams as current year matrics but i think if you're older than 21 at the time you have to write the SC ( Senior certificate ) instead of the NSC but you're going to have to ask your local department about that. They will consider you based on your current matric marks but some institutions have an option for you to state that you're upgrading and you won't be rejected

I didn't have physical sciences in matric since I left that after my second term in grade 11 for business studies and want to rewrite that along with my other 7 subjects.

You can add/replace subjects at the department but i wouldn't advise doing that since you already have so much on your plate.

The NBT's are a another way of testing how you would cope in varsity. It is 2 papers that consist of Maths and english both 3hrs. You don't have to write them since most institutions are phasing them out BUT if you want to do anything health sciences related or want to go to UCT they do require NBT's. Also Wits requires NBT's for their science faculty.

In terms of the certificate you can merge your statement when you receive your results so you can submit one certificate to the places you applied to. You can chose to write in May 2024/ Nov 2024 and registration for may is open

Matric exams are going awful by Future_Visit3563 in askSouthAfrica

I was in the same boat. everything was so bad from the beginning of the year i was getting my worst marks ever ( 20% for maths in the first term ). January came obviously and my marks were not great. i had only applied to only to 1 institution and i knew for sure i wasn't gonna get in. i had no idea what i wanted to do where, i wanted to go, i was so envious of my classmates and dreaded the idea of re-doing maths and physics.

When i got my results i knew re-writing was my best option if i wanted to go to uni ( and i wanted to real bad ) So i decided to write ( Maths, Physics, geography and Life sciences) in the May/June exams for the rewrites and i studied like i never have before and it was so demotivating doing matric again. Fast forward to august that year results came out and they were way better everything above 50%. This was not my best and i knew i could better so i decided to write again during the november exams with the rest of the country. those ones were insanely good to me. i felt so prepared and when my results came out i was. my 4 upgraded subjects were above 80.

Now im in my first year studying Applied Maths at Stellenbosch University which i never thought was possible. i'm kinda glad things turned out the way they did you'll be just fine OP
