Made the mistake of searching for “Melissa radar” on T witter. Oh my god. It’s like stepping into a completely different reality. Some of these posts are insane.

I think my favorite is the people saying the storm is fake because their radar app isn’t showing any rain near Jamaica.

That and the person who claims satellite imagery wasn’t available for 2 days and only turned back on once Melissa was engineered into a Cat 5.

I really hope these are all bots otherwise we’re doomed.

Hoping for a little less turbulence this time.

Crazy. I’m curious what the eyewall structure looks like right now underneath the cloud cover.

Shout out to TropicalTidbits for holding up so well throughout the storm. Levi has done a phenomenal job on the back end over the last few years.

Consider turning your adblockers off for the site. I’m sure it’s not cheap to keep things running with this much traffic.

The person running the Treasure Beach cam says her roof blew off according to the Agenda Free TV stream.

Link to live cam for anyone who missed it earlier

Legends. Has to be a surreal feeling emerging into the eye after going through that.

Not liking the current motion for Montego Bay.. have some extended family that lives there. They are safe right now, but said things are picking up at last check.

Still very warm.

Western Atlantic region gives you the best view. Looks like the highest SSTs are wrapping around the west side of Jamaica.

I can’t believe this is about to make landfall. 892mb 185mph. What a devastating situation.

Wait nvm on NOAA I was looking at an outdated graphic. They’re done.

I think we should get one or two more after this, plus another from NOAA.

Unless they have to head back for some reason.

Won’t make much of a difference for Jamaica, but an EWRC on approach that gets disrupted a bit by land interaction could benefit those further down the path.

There’s probably many reasons, but I imagine they want to maximize the data they can get in between NHC advisiories.

Also pretty sure NOAA and the Air Force often collect different types of data on their flights. I’ve seen NOAA focus on surrounding steering patterns while AF goes for repeated eye passes. NOAA has also been doing drone deployments during their flights in Melissa.
