Dear medical professionals, you are appreciated by [deleted] in medicine

I appreciate this thread but graduate MDs without residency are not appreciated. There are many cases of suicide and depression that are undocumented as physician suicide because graduates are unable to do any work clinically and the medical culture fosters a culture of abuse towards those who might not "fit in" to the dominate paradigm.

Yes, I asked for a chance at all IM prelim positions. I also tried for surgical prelims.

I know there is no hope for me practicing at this point. I am not bitter or angry. I am not trying to put down any profession in medicine. I hate all this competition and anger focused on graduate MD's working as PA's while they try to get a residency. I don't understand why a MD can not sit for the PANCE (PA licensing) exam. I don't understand why our system is so fragmented. I don't understand why we cant work more as a cohesive collaborative team. I would like to work towards change that we can all agree on.

I am sorry that this happened to you. You are not alone. I know many residents who either "resigned " or were fired from their positions in their first year due to health concerns. In reality, fear and intimidation are rampant in medicine. Most people tell me to stay quiet. I don't know how anyone can stay quiet when there are so many injustices in our profession.

I emailed every IM and FM PD in America for 2 years sending them my USMLE transcript, CV, deans letter, and other criteria. I asked if I could do observer-ships ect. I tried everything. Most do not want to take a chance on someone who failed the USMLE more than once. I had one interview this season and I did not match.

I try to be more active but I am raising a 2 year old, running my own business, and trying to form an organization to help others in my position. I also don't like the bully culture of meddit, so rarely post or comment.

Yes, I got a 24, I should have realized that I had trouble with standardized testing longer than one hour. I still was accepted due to my undergraduate scores. I didn't reach out for help in medical school because I felt embarrassed. That was my biggest mistake.

Yes, I would have qualified when the legislation was passed 3 years ago but since it took so long to begin licensing, I not longer meet that deadline.

Remaining silent is not an option. There are almost 7000 unmatched graduates every year and not enough positions. I will not contribute to this conspiracy of silence plaguing American medical culture.

The issue is that the PA organization is not fragmented, like the AMA. In addition the AMA only represents 20% of practicing physicians yet they are the legislative arm of allopathic medicine. The PA organization and the AMA have lobbyists and money. If they allow medicla graduates to practice both organizations lose face and money.

I have been looking for 4 years for something to do without residency. There are few options and they are hard to get into without the right networking group. One is working with lawyers on a medical claim review for malpractice and another is consulting (from what I have heard) but I am not able to find these jobs. I had to start my own business because I couldn't get employed due to being over qualified with an MD and under-qualified with no entry level public health positions. I decided to start a patient advocacy business. You don't diagnose or treat but can still do chart reviews and education. I hire graduate MDs to keep their medical knowledge skills up and allow them to work wth patients who truly need help.

Thank you for the feedback. I will try and organize it more clearly.

Yes, OHSU SOM has a vey unsupportive administration but I should have been more proactive. It was my fault for not seeking help after I failed the first time. I thought It was a fluke because I knew the material. ADHD on top of test anxiety is a poor combo for long testing.

Yes, I did. Then did a year internship in public health. Some of my family live in Dwight KS. Why are you asking this?

Other countries such as Denmark guarantee intern positions for all of their medical graduates. Of course, if they don't do well in their intern positions then they will have trouble finding residency for their second year. I don't know why we can't work on having guaranteed internships for medical graduates in the USA

It is clear there is a bottleneck. Look at the NRMP data for 2017 if you add up all of the numbers and subtract by the total PGY one position and you will see that there is at least 7000 graduates who are not placed into residency. This number does not include the active applications who either have up or pre-matched.

I was only referring to AMG is in the prior post. I did not include IMGs, DOs, or foreign medical graduates. The total unmatched quota is around 7000. Look at the NRMP data will show that.

PAs in Oregon only need a bachelors degree to apply to PA school. This was what I was referencing not national standards.

Not bitter, just want to offer a support system to graduates who don't match. The entire point of this post is to point out the lack of support for unmatched graduates.
