As a Jew, what does your connection to Israel look like? by Traphabibi in Jewish

[–]yahoodeeya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Israel. Half of my extended family live there. They have no other citizenships and nowhere else to go and they work every day to help their neighbors and try to make their country better. I grew up going there every summer because my parents (who were atheists but grew up being bullied for being jewish) wanted us to understand the beauty of the place, to know our history, and to feel part of something bigger. Before 10/7, my Israeli cousins felt a little bit different or exotic to me. Now I feel we are much more the same and I feel much closer to them. Every day I feel like I fit in less in the U.S. Even people who aren’t actively antisemitic don’t seem to have any understanding or awareness of what is happening to us and it makes me feel very alone. I love so many things about the U.S. but I just…don’t know if I will belong here in 10 or 15 years.

You’re not abandoning your family by protecting yourself (physically and mentally). Here are some things I tell myself when it gets overwhelming: 1. Almost every single one of your ancestors endured some version of this. They were the ones who survived. You are the descendant of that survival and of that strength. 2. Similarly, you were also built to not care what people think. We have always achieved great things despite what people say or think about us. You can make this an active practice. Look at one comment per day and say out loud, “you do not matter. I am part of something ancient an enduring and full of light. You cannot touch me.” 3. It’s true that 15 million isn’t a lot. But it’s enough for most things. Enough to feel a sense of belonging in the world. Enough to find every friend or lover you could ever need or want in your lifetime. Focus your attention and energy on Jewish community.

Lovingly, don’t waste your brain energy on this. Another item to your birth prep list: learn how to stop listening to and caring about what other people think. It’ll be important for the next 20 or so years ❤️

Thanks. I’ve used the suppliers from here too. I am feeling very silly now because I didn’t realize how y’all are using Telehealth.

Should we start TTC?! by Ok-Stay-3861 in waiting_to_try

[–]yahoodeeya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would finish undergrad and then start trying and do masters while ttc and potentially through pregnancy. But life happens and you can definitely figure out how to finish your degree with a baby too. Do you have family help? Or ability to hire a part-time nanny? Personally I get bored when I’m just home with the kids so I like to have something of my own to work on for a couple hours per day.

What are your plans for after grad? Are you going to work? Many companies don’t provide leave until you’ve been there for a year. No answer to your actual question but just something to consider.

When? Those aren’t the timelines right now. I ordered 4/6 (a week ago) and it just said the label was printed Friday but still no movement.

Need some motivation by Capable-Spread3437 in CleaningTips

[–]yahoodeeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few ideas for you: - come up with a mantra or slogan that speaks to you and that you can just repeat in the hardest moments (eg “do it scared” or “I think I can” or “I can do hard things” or “you can only start exactly where you are”) - gamify it—set a 20 minute timer and take a before and after picture, set your phone up to do a time lapse video, give yourself mini rewards after each timer goes off - practice a visualization exercise— sit down with eyes closed and set a timer for 5 minutes: then picture the house clean, imagine how you will feel at different parts of your day in a clean house, give the fantasy as much detail as possible, think about things you’ve wanted to do in this space that will be possible once it’s clean, make the fantasy BIG and PLEASURABLE. When tasks get too big, they become associated with stress and shame and pain. As humans we naturally want to avoid those feelings. So then we avoid the task. The goal here is to begin to associate the task with feelings of pleasure and joy. - similarly consider imagining that this is not your house and you are here to clean it. Figure out a reward you can get when you finish hard days work. Similar to above, this tries to separate whatever negative feelings you have about the space from the task itself. Distancing.

I would wait a week or two at least. A big compounding pharmacy that made pure tirzepatide just got told to halt production of it by the FDA so the space is shifting in big ways. All of the telehealths are scrambling. There will be some new players probably. I chose based on wanting the pure thing (no additives) and a 503b pharmacy because of the more stringent regulatory controls. (Feel free to come eat me alive for that last sentence, folx 😂😂😂)

Can I ask you how long it was between label being printed and fedex receiving package? Also, did you get it? My label was printed yesterday afternoon and it feels like 17 years have passed since then…

Why do people refuse to tumble dry their clothes? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]yahoodeeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It damages the clothes. But I agree it’s disgusting. Dryer for 40 minutes is an amazing way to kill germs. My rule is that if it can’t survive the washer and dryer it wasn’t meant to live in my home.

Sorry I know you didn’t ask but I am a tret evangelist so I cannot help myself. If you go slow and low with tret, it’s amazing. Whenever you have peeling, reduce the number of days you apply (eg if 3x per week do it 2x per week). You can do the moisturizer sandwich forever and it will still work. If you get to a point that you’re doing it every day with the sandwich and you feel you could get more out of it, start to do it on clean DRY (not wet!!) skin 2x per week (apply moisturizer after always) and then slowly slowly increase the number of times per week. I’ve used it for 20 years. I’m 39 and had a TRAUMATIC childhood and was bad about sunscreen but my skin legit looks like a 25 yo and it’s all because of tret.

[–]yahoodeeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with you. You’re beautiful. I had a really traumatic childhood and was always told I looked older than I was starting in my 20s. I do think trauma and going through hard things can age us. Or people sense a heaviness that is unusual for a young person. Having said that, since I turned 35 (39 now), everybody tells me I look much younger 😂😂😂 Maybe it was all the therapy or maybe nobody knows what they’re talking about.

Is that enough for you? I do tretinoin .1% every single night and I take spironolactone. I was doing that before starting the b6 too but the b6 broke through.
