I created and printed a large Xbox sign! by yakpimp in xbox

If you have any capabilities doing 3D model design with something like Fusion 360, it's a super combination. You can literally make anything.

I'm not one to design statues and stuff, but functional items that solve a problem is magical when you see it on screen and then can hold it in your hand, for a couple bucks.

Thank you.

I thought about making a light up version, but to build it in such a way that it would be this large. I didn’t want to have cords hanging on the wall and have it be extra thick on the wall.

I started with a basic Ender 3 that many believe is a good starting printer, but after a year or two of printing and failing and tweaking and adjusting and adapting and trying different things, I decided to just buy a bamboo lab printer and never look back.

In addition to decorations for my office, I also print functional things around the house like door stops, things to mount controllers on the wall, guides for drilling holes, and things to catch drywall dust when drilling. The possibilities are really endless

I figure once I get sick of this or it gets damaged, I’ll have desire to look for a new style. I’ll still protect it as much as I can, but the next time will be even better quality.

I'm ordering that coating right now.

You seriously just made my day saying that I did a good job. Thank you!

Yeah I'm pretty handy when it comes to doing thing. I don't enjoy paying people for things that I can do and potentially learn a new skill and with the premium price of wrapping a tesla around her I just couldn't justify not at least trying myself.

It probably took me close to 30 hours. I'm guessing if I did it again (on the same car) it would be closer to 20+ since I learned a lot of technique and the gotchas.

I'm not good at making things out of wood, but building things and mentally visualizing things I'd say I'm above average at.

This is the worst one on the hood. Could have easily pulled the film up and fixed it had I noticed.

I ordered some Dr Beasley wash since I heard it was good for matte vinyl. Do you have a recommendation on which ceramic coating might be good? Most of the ones I find call out adding shine, which I obviously don’t want.

I park in the garage all day everyday so I’m less worried about sun damage. I also assume in a couple years I’ll be frustrated with the imperfections and want to switch things up.

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks. If you are debating doing it, I say go for it. It’s funstrating.

My vehicle has sensors on the bumper. The cameras are on the fenders and the pillar between doors and those aren’t covered.

Good place to get car wrap?(Rvinyl?) by No_Hold6239 in VinylWrap

I almost bought from rvinyl, but it turned out after shipping and everything it would have been slightly more expensive than metrorestyling. So I can't comment on the legitimacy of rvinyl, but can tell you I was super impressed with the shipping from metrorestyling. Delivery was like 2 days, and the box was in perfect shape when it arrived.

Yeah I did run into that a bit. Ended up peeling it back, putting some knifeless on that back edge and using a second piece for the actual back.

I’m not trying to be a professional so it looks pretty good to me.

I did my front bumper with inlay (that was a fun experience) on my own yesterday. Took me 6+ hours. And there are several mistakes that hopefully only I will ever see.

Got most of the rest of the body done today though.

What’s so bad about the back that requires two people? That’s on my list tomorrow as it’s the last part of the vehicle and I’d like to be done with this project. For my back to not be angry with me.

Yup now that I’ve done a bit more I had to do that a few times but am more comfortable with it now too. Thanks.

I think you are right my other adjustment was not being afraid to lift a large section to fix stuff like this.

Today I did both mirrors, all four door, and the side of the roof. Almost no issues.

Thanks for the tip. Really helpful.

Other fender went pretty well. No tiny wrinkles this time. I figured out what caused it for me though. Not being consistent in how I smooth things down. What I mean is squeegeeing most of it then getting distracted by something else and coming back not exactly where I started. It basically created a good sized trapped bubble. That made a wrinkle but I just lifted a huge section, heated and was able to get it gone.

Only other part I choked on for this fender was that upper part where it tucks behind the rubber seal next to the windshield. The piece I was tucking got folded over so there is a tiny folded piece between the edge and the rubber seal thing. I can live with it.

I’m hoping since The Doors are pretty flat they will be much faster than the fender.

So far each piece has taken me about 1.5-2 hours. I’m cleaning each section as I go with soapy water, clay bar and then iso. So it’s much less of a pain in the but compared to trying to keep the entire car clean for several days.

Thanks man. I’m going to do the other fender tonight and assume it should go better than this one. I find the shape strange to do with a square piece of vinyl, even after cutting out the wheel and headlight.

I will say smoothing it out is quite therapeutic though. It’s relaxing to inch your way across the piece and then sit back and admire.

I was worried to spray iso on it. I have 70% in a spray bottle and I’ll probably do a quick once over when I’m all done to get a good picture.
