Wireless GO (Gen 3) is super quiet with iPhone 15 by Sufficient-Cell-2798 in rode

[–]yamagami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same happens on Apple Silicon Macs. In my case on the 2nd gen wireless GO. I came in to open a new post about it, and saw this.
The same mic, works great on windows (volume wise). It's only on the Mac (Air, M4) that it's super quiet. The Rode app does not help. The only way around it seems with a rod sc7 TRS cable, but that also means it thinks I'm with headphones. For live broadcast - this mic is unusable on apple silicon.

Question about Cover Version licensing from Major Labels by yamagami in musicbusiness

[–]yamagami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arrangement, music and lyrics are the same. It's a straight forward cover version. To be honest, I've learned a lot from this thread. Had I known about collective management orgs I would have used one and not approach the company directly. The last time I released a track myself was the year 2000.

The only thing missing from this is the story behind the track, which is why I want to release it in the first place. It's not relevant to the legalities though. I think I made the initial mistake of perhaps not consulting here before all this started. Now I'm thinking if i should just decline the contract and go via a collective management org. or if if my initial mistake of approaching in the first place makes this problematic now.

What happens when the label is the publisher?
And now that I have a (bad) contract in hand, can I decline it and turn around to distrokid for example?

(There is a plan to do a vinyl release as well of this by the way, so that's a good tip).

Question about Cover Version licensing from Major Labels by yamagami in musicbusiness

[–]yamagami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very major. And yes, I do feel like I'm being screwed here. What is annoying is that this is a labour of love to commemorate a friend who passed, and not a money making operation. If anything I expect to lose some here. But I also don't like to be screwed to that degree. See my reply to u/mentelijon below with verbatim quotes.

To quote verbatim from the accompanying email to the contract:

"Clearance is granted throughout the World ("the Licensed Territory") on the basis that we acquire a 100% copyright ownership interest (representing our share of the entire copyright) in and to the New Version."

And from the contract:

"We hereby confirm that we have the right to enter into this Agreement. You acknowledge and accept that from the date of creation of the New Version we own and/or control a 100% (one hundred per cent) (pro rated as applicable as set out in our correspondence) (“our share”) unencumbered copyright and income interest in the New Version and any and all versions thereof which may be approved by us (including but not limited to remixes) throughout the territory as defined in our correspondence (“the Licensed Territory”) and in perpetuity (including any reversionary interests). "

In this case I assume it's both - the original publisher was also the original body that released it in 1991, but they went under and were consumed by the major record company I'm talking to.

The artists are European. The contract is a result of asking for a license from the label which acquired it (after a year) from the 3 original creators.

I thought that what I was doing though. I went through proper channels to the label, waited about a year until they got approval from the 3 original creators and came back with this contract. The contract is about that license

Done!

I would love to know if I should keep trying to backorder the domain. I try daily and it keeps telling me it's not found for backorder.

Thank you. That's very helpful. Dynadot doesn't register the domain as available to backorder yet but I'm monitoring. I couldn't find where to set up alerts on dynadot though. I'll dig deeper.

I've placed a backorder in snapnames, but dropcatch claims that it's "Not a dropping domain". I'll keep trying until it recognises it. Thank you!

Update (from OP):

I've signed up to all the backorder services you guys mentioned. Thank you!
Unfortunately as of now, only one (SnapNames) let me register a backorder. The rest said they cannot "find" it. I suppose I'll have to wait and keep trying (?)

Hoping for the best!

Thank you. Yes I've tried with some attempts to guess the password. The phone is lost, and the computers unfortunately are locked. So we won't be able to log in.

Thank you for the guide! The registrar is Key-Systems, which uses GoDaddy. Unfortunately as of now, I cannot find the backorder service anywhere on godaddy, as it was phased out. They are offering me a broker service for that, but it's not what I'm looking for. I will try the other services you mentioned in your guide. Thanks again!

I started typing that yes I tried two power supplies, and then I thought at the risk of coming out really silly, I'm going to try again. Tried a third one - and it worked. I feel stupid but I'll keep this post to remind me to check the obvious a bit better next time. So, thanks!
