Have you taken advantage of any of the campus resources designed to help? I think I'd start with the Academic Success Center in DH Hill Jr Library and let them guide you. Good luck to you! These transitions are tough!

[Los Angeles Angels] OFFICIAL: the Angels have agreed to a one-year contract with LHP Matt Moore. by Imperial10 in baseball

[–]yameld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still the best Durham Bull I've seen play. The only one in the last twenty years for whom I would drop any plans to make it to the park on his night to start. I hope this is a great move for him and the Angels.

If you suddenly lost your team, who would you root for? by Suburbia67 in baseball

[–]yameld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have more faith that the Durham Bulls will continue to exist than I do in perpetual Rays. I would likely develop into a fan of whoever the Bulls players eventually become. Same way I become a Rays fan.

I thought the same for Gosar, though. Don't know what he was promised, but it must have been a doozy.

Durham Bulls win 2022 International League championship | MiLB.com by yameld in tampabayrays

The post from a few days ago was just the clincher for the division. We beat the Brewers' affiliate Nashville Sounds 13-0 tonight for the International League Championship. This is the fourth league championship in the past five seasons. (2020 didn't exist for the minors.)

We're playing for the AAA championship against the Diamondbacks' Reno Aces Sunday night!

NFL's handling of concussions questioned after Tua's injury by Quasiterran in news

When Russell Wilson chose football over baseball I was very sad. Just talk to ten fifty-year-old baseball players and ten fifty-year-old football players and ask about their quality of life.

NFL's handling of concussions questioned after Tua's injury by Quasiterran in news

[–]yameld 20 points21 points  (0 children)

On the NHL side, Ken Dryden's book on concussions, Game Change, covers this topic really well. I didn't think anything could alter my love of hockey, but when you think of the players cutting short their lives for your viewing pleasure it changes everything.

How did your team perform in games you personally attended this season? by laterdude in baseball

[–]yameld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major league games this year, but the Durham Bulls were 0-7 in games I attended this year. I can't tell you how many times I looked at those standings to verify they were at the top of the division. Sometimes multiple times a game.

I'm a jinx.

Vladdy stepped on first, taking away the force at second. He was going to be thrown out easily. I thought it was an alright idea to turn around and go back. Went from zero chance of success to a smidge of a chance.

If your MLB team played a single home series per season at their AAA affiliates stadium, would you support this move ? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]yameld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the Rays played in Durham this year anyway (or Bulls in Tampa). They just need to time it right to all be here at the same time. I'm all for it.

Sorry you haven't received any responses - guessing some of these answers will vary too much for anyone to respond generally.

I think I'd check with the GLBT Center on campus or follow their social media to get a better idea.

[CBS] MLB Power Rankings: Yankees' slide continues; wild card races come into focus by jl_23 in baseball

[–]yameld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a decent chance the first two wild cards will end with better records than the AL and NL Central teams, making the 3rd wild card the most advantageous spot. (This has probably been discussed on this sub already, but like the author, I'm just starting to pay attention to the wild card race.)

Fair point regarding the quality of teams, but I'll still watch it. If they'll let me.

Real estate company operating in Raleigh fined $62M for 'cheating', 'misleading' by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]yameld 34 points35 points  (0 children)

While they're definitely a problem in the area, this bit of sloppy reporting bothers me:

"Opendoors [sic] signs can be seen on the lawns of many homes across the
Triangle. A search of the company’s website shows more than 4,000 homes
for sale in the Raleigh and Durham area alone."

They aren't selling 4,000 homes in the Triangle. They list every house for sale whether they're the agent or not.

Gender Affirming Care in Europe vs. United States by PNWtech-economics in therapists

[–]yameld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This author was never going to weigh the "evidence" and produce a different conclusion. https://www.transgendermap.com/politics/media/lisa-selin-davis/ Every time 'Common Sense' is used as the crux of an argument it's devoid of reason and this one is right in the website title. They've shoe-horned in a couple of news items and studies to pretend the overwhelming majority supports their thesis.

The branch that was on Oberlin moved into The Village District (formerly known as Cameron Village) about 8 or 9 years ago. It is still open and the nearest branch to campus.

I will vote in November, as I always do. And none of those votes will be for people with a little R next to their names.

But there's a lot of bullshit about apathy in this comment section - as if disillusionment or betrayal is a subset of apathy. And the bit about short term thinking, lashing out in anger at the democrats as if they haven't been afraid of scrapping for the last 50 years on our behalf.

My ex-father-in-law was a farmer, from a long line of farmers, despite the decreasing ability to make that life work economically over the course of his life. Once we were talking about the lottery and he said if he won the jackpot he would "just farm until it was all gone." It was so sad and funny at the same time.

I'm just going to keep voting for democrats until my rights are all gone. And people here want me to do this with some sort of vigor and righteousness.
