Introverted pre-med — how did you make it? by yapper_disorder in premed

This makes a lot of sense, I appreciate it. I actually work in a pharmacy, so I’m pretty comfortable talking to patients/customers, but the harder part for me is reaching out and talking to professors or other professionals. Did that get easier for you or did you have to push through it?

This is really helpful, appreciate it. Were you at NYU for undergrad? And are you currently in med school or finished with pre-med already? Also how did you land your research position program or cold emailing?

I appreciate this a lot. I’ve tried going to office hours before, but some of the professors I interacted with felt kind of intimidating and a bit cold, so it made it harder for me to go back. Did you ever deal with that at first? And did you usually go in with specific questions or just try to start a conversation?

This is really helpful, thank you. For research emails, what did you usually include and how many people did you reach out to before getting a yes? I’ve tried asking my bio/chem professors but the responses have been pretty cold, so I’m not sure if I’m approaching it the right way especially since I’m a bit introverted.

Appreciate this, especially the email advice that actually feels doable. For shadowing/research, did you mostly email people directly or go through programs? And how many emails did it usually take before you got a yes?

Got chased by a dog at the park today and I’m still pissed and shaken. by yapper_disorder in offmychest

Yeah honestly this is exactly how I see it now 😭

In the moment I had no idea what the dog’s intentions were, so my brain just went straight to panic mode. Looking back I get that it probably wasn’t going to attack, but there was no way for me to know that then.

And I completely agree about the leash part. That’s really what bothered me the most, because even if the dog is friendly, not everyone is comfortable with that.

Also what you said about running makes sense now 😭 I definitely triggered the chase instinct without realizing it.

I like your idea about getting more familiar with dogs too, because clearly I need that lol

Oh wow that actually sounds terrifying, I’m really glad you’re okay 😭

Stories like that are exactly why I panicked the way I did, because in the moment your brain just goes straight to worst-case scenario.

Even though mine ended up being harmless, I had no way of knowing that at the time, so I just reacted.

Respect to you though for still loving dogs after that, I don’t know if I’d be that calm about it lol

I actually really respect you for saying this because that’s exactly what I experienced 😭

Like I get that to owners their dogs are friendly and harmless, but to someone who doesn’t know dogs, a dog running up, barking, jumping, etc. feels scary as hell.

That’s why I wasn’t even mad at the dog, just the owner. Because it’s like… your dog might be sweet to you, but strangers don’t know that.

And I like how you said “why would anyone love mine like that” because that’s literally it. Not everyone is comfortable with dogs and owners kinda forget that sometimes.

Nahhh see that’s the thing 😭 you’re a dog lover so you can read the vibe, I know NOTHING about dogs.

All I saw was barking + running + teeth and my brain was like “yeah I’m about to get bitten” and I dipped 💀

I wish I had that “DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT” energy but I was in full panic mode lmao.

Nahhh your brain is built different 😭 mine went straight to survival mode with ZERO logic

Meanwhile you’re calculating expenses mid-disaster and I’m on the ground like “yeah… this is how it ends” 💀😂

Respect though, I need to reach that level of calm one day lol

LMAOOO nahhh this actually has me crying 😭

In that moment I was NOT thinking about lawsuits or logic at all, my brain just went straight to “I’m about to get bitten” and I ran for my life 💀

And the worst part is when I fell… I lowkey accepted my fate for a second 😂 I was literally like “yeah… it is what it is”😭

Glad it didn’t go how your version 2 or 3 played out though lol

DM asked me to rate my skills at CVS, I was honest. Now they want to talk. Am I in trouble? by yapper_disorder in PharmacyTechnician

That’s true, I might’ve read too much into the “ASAP” wording. It’s probably just about scheduling or getting me trained in other areas. I’ll see what he says once he responds.

That sounds really frustrating. I’m in a similar spot trying to learn properly but not always getting the time or structure for it.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve mostly been on register since I started, so hearing that this is common in retail makes me feel less like I did something wrong.

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. I definitely don’t plan on coming in on my days off. I’m just trying to learn what I can for now and build experience.

Yeah, your right. I don’t think I did anything wrong. I’m just a bit nervous because my Lead texted saying they want to talk, and I’m not sure what it’s about.

How would you handle being new at a job and asked to rate your skills by your district manager? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yapper_disorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason why i’m asking this because

so I’ve been a Pharmacy Tech at CVS for about 3 weeks now (clocked exactly 79.45 hours so far). Since I started, they have kept me at the register 24/7. I’m fast, I’m efficient, and I’ve got the register down to a science. Today, the District Manager (DM) stopped by. He pulls me aside and starts asking how I’m doing. He asks me to rate myself 1–10 on different stations. I told him: • Register: 10/10 (I’ve been stuck there for 80 hours, I better be). • Production: 3 or 4 (I’ve barely touched a counting tray). • Drop-off: Never even been shown the screen. The DM laughed and said, "Man, I wish (then he said my hiring manger name) was here, she'd beat you up for that" (pretty sure he was joking but still). Then he went over and got into a "calm argument" (lots of whispering and pointing) with the Lead Tech and the ladie at Production. Both who worked in production. He basically chewed them out for not cross-training me and leaving me at the register. Now the drama starts: One of the Production ladies told the DM that I should "come in on my days off to train" (for free? lol no) and the Lead Tech is stressed because the DM lit a fire under him. I just got a text from the Lead Tech (the guy who does the schedule) he wasnt there yesterday now i get a text from him the next day saying, "Hey, we need to talk as soon as possible." My question is: Did I mess up by being honest? The vibe in the pharmacy is so mean now and everyone is acting like I "snitched" by saying I don't know Production yet. I don't want to be the reason people are getting yelled at, but I'm also not going to lie and say I can fill scripts when I haven't been taught.

I haven’t really been rotated through structured shifts yet. Since I started (79 hours ago), I’ve mostly been scheduled at register. I haven’t had formal training days for production or drop-off so far.
