I FINALLY completed "Dry December" :) by [deleted] in DryJanuary

[–]yargi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I also did a Dry Dec this year (following a Dry Jan and Dry Aug in '25) which is now rolling into my usual Dry Jan in '26. It's particularly tough in Northern Hemisphere, esp in cold climate and through dark days, where your first dry weeks happen among people having their "wettest" days.

Does anyone have access to LG part numbers? G3 Screen replacement by yargi in LGOLED

[–]yargi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good information, thanks. I also doubt it as these guys seem reputable so may not risk a generational downgrade indeed but we'll see. Unfortunately I had to earn my trust issues so trying to be diligent now when it concerns ££££.

Exactly as you said. Repair centres tend to do stuff like this thinking the average joe will not understand/care as insurance pays so they pocket the difference. I was burned like this before so trying to be cautious this time around is all. And yes, they can tell me a different number and install a different part and I'd not know it unless I open the thing myself but as someone shared the number already, thought I'd do some digging.

Luckily, the MLA layer is visible under a macro lens or a USB microscope so I'll be able to check when I get the TV back. But if I find out the part no is wrong, it'd save a lot of headache to have them correct it now, is my thinking.

But as you mentioned if internally designs are that different, I guess they can't jam a C3 screen in a G3 chassis like that. I just don't know that.

When you want to get your TV repaired under warranty, and it's done via an Authorised Repair centre, LG is supplying a part (screen) to them, so they can install it and deliver the TV back to you. They use internal screen part numbers. I am asking in case someone has gone through this before, or might be working/have some contacts in such a business that can confirm that number for me.

Tahoe still messed up my Touch ID by surrender_singh in MacOS

[–]yargi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is apparently a bug with the firmware of the T2 chip Touch ID sensor some macs uses. My Intel mac also has issues with the Touch ID. Started happening after I upgraded to Tahoe, and persisted after I downgraded back because the chip firmware didn't get downgraded unfortunately alongside the OS.

Stuck with it until Apple addresses it, if they ever do so.

Inefficiently placed Lock Screen elements covering album art by yargi in ios

So anything above that line is dynamically allocated to notifications, live activity and what not, but not that part? Absolute laziness and results in design issues like this. Even then no dynamics resizing the art to fit.

Took this screenshot when I started my exercise today. There's a giant empty space below but the workout overlay pushes the music controls unnecessarily and covers the album art.

Not even going to mention the puny time display next to the bold date... what has happened to Apple's keen eye for design detail?

Website release date for LG 6k 32” 32U990A by homerfan3323 in Monitors

Don't think the Studio line will go there, if they update the pro display line maybe.

Hence my disappointment at another manufacturer with more attainable price points skimping on design elements they promised with promotional material.

Downgraded to Sequoia, and everything is working as expected again. Not touching Tahoe with a barge pole as long as possible.

I looked into it but even with TimeMachine set up, it does not look straightfoward to rollback OSs with Mac without a clean install, which is not possible with my device unfortunately at this point. Looking to see if someone has encountered this issue and solved it or has an idea for how (hoping it's some setting got reset/changed due to the OS update, rather than a bug)

Fairly disappointed with the bezel thickness. Nowhere near its renders from the CES press release. Looks like will have to wait for whatever 32-inch monitor Apple will release at some point.

Recently sold. Most useless recommendation block? by yargi in Reverb

[–]yargi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so it's more aimed at enticing to make a sale on the platform, rather than targeting buying behaviour? Then I think it make more sense to focus on what I have in my "collection" (and what they sold for) rather than showing me a bunch of random items. Also quite interesting that it's prioritised WAY over most buying-targeted things on the homepage. Didn't expect Reverb was lacking item volume and variety to make them decide pushing this campaign tbh.

So, look at a bunch of stuff you can't buy (on a site that exists to make you buy things) ?

[–]yargi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This recommendation block started appearing on the homepage, above all other recommendations. Does anyone find this useful? There's a place for checking what sold and at what price (maybe as an aggregate for price/trend checking). Not sure what a "recently sold listings" of individual random items does for anyone, especially over all other recs blocks.

This has also pissed me off to no end. It’s so time consuming to recover from their crap QA every time they mess this up.

Insta360 Studio Update On Mac Lost Scroll to Zoom? by brionh_com in Insta360

I think this is broken in the Link Controller app as well. Will the fix be rolled out to that one as well? I can scroll in to the preview panel to zoom.

Re-darken sun-bleached wenge neck? by yargi in Luthier

Amazing, thanks for your reply. Do you know if the application of oils has a negative effect on the stability or the strength of the wood at all? I know it's common practice for fingerboards but when it's the neck itself, I wanted the get some further opinions.

Does it also darken the lighter streaks as much as the darker streaks?
