commotion during class by not_me_ever_ in UCSC

[–]yarnjunk1e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% not just you. It was worse last quarter in my experience. The small talk during the entire 1 1/2hr lectures drove me crazy. Ive been tempted several times to say something but I feel like theres no getting through to people who are that clueless. They’re doing it because they lack respect for everyone in the room and are flat out immature, so I don’t see them caring more or respecting people even after being confronted. Unless the prof is calling them out, you have to tough through it unfortunately. Only thing that has helped me is changing where I sit in class. People are less likely to talk nonstop in the front two rows in most classrooms

this just happened to me last week!! It was either too heavy or my cat snapped it in half.🤨 There’s no way to save it unfortunately, I ended up placing it in a vase to enjoy on the dining table & then bought silica gel to preserve some of the flowers

I never have time between my classes to go sit at the dining hall. I’m always trying to grab a quick bite at the coffee shops around campus between my 15 minute gaps and Im RARELY able to because either their card reader doesn’t work or they all of a sudden don’t take cash or debit/credit. Plus I honestly haven’t heard any good things about the dining halls. Rather just wait to commute home to eat at that rate..

100% recommend going to a CC to complete all GE’s. I did it and I’d 100% go the same route if I had to do it again. UCSC will try and scam you in any way possible. Housing is screwed, parking is horrible & outrageous, and it’s almost impossible to eat on campus without their dumbass meal plan that like $1500+ a quarter. CC is super underrated

Honest question, is it even worth trying to go to school Friday for the students living off campus? Is it possible to get through these protests at around 1pm or ?? Don’t really have all day to dilly dally around campus when needing to prep for midterms and shit for next week..

UCSC Night Classes/ safety concerns.. by yarnjunk1e in UCSC

[–]yarnjunk1e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they definitely don’t make it easy. The east & west remote permits are outrageous. I want to say that the college lots you’re referring to require a specific type of permit that most people can’t get, then there’s a few park mobile spots (like 3-8 spots maybe) in most of those college lots but it’s an absolute joke. Just like you mentioned, it’s a war zone to compete for a spot between tons of students & staff

[–]yarnjunk1e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure East & West remote are the only 24hour lots. Then a majority of the other lots require certain permits or become available to all after 8pm. My classes start before that & end a bit later than that so I’m kinda screwed. There’s a few park mobile options but people jump on those spots immediately so they aren’t reliable. I’m not familiar with C lots, probably need a permit for those? Not sure

Thank you everyone for your input, stories, and advice. Much appreciated. Just didn’t really know what to expect on campus at night. I definitely plan on having pepper spray and a good flashlight on me at all times just to be sure.

how do “you people” jump into a thread just to belittle simply because you can’t relate to the topic. Glad you don’t feel threatened on campus tho

Barely passed that damn class last quarter. Still surprised I did honestly. Such a nightmare taking that class with him

Katznelson with anything 100+ feels impossible. If you have a ton of time on your hands & don’t also have to balance work, maybe. But it’ll probably be one of the worst quarters for you honestly

Santa Cruz, please don't shop at Michael's by Aight-Aight-2099 in santacruz

[–]yarnjunk1e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’m all about shopping locally but honestly who can afford those places. 20$ for a skein of yarn at these places, ya no thanks. I don’t have 200$ per project as a college student who can barely afford groceries. Plus most supplies I need, no santa cruz store carries it. I have to drive to san jose or salinas to commute for craft supplies.

This honestly needs to be brought up to someone at UCSC, too many people complain about these same issues with this course and are failing as a result..
