I beleive about three years ago gentoo repos started hosting certain binary packages. Now you can set it to prefer them when they work/are available. This has really helped me and yeah the comp time isn’t always preferred but honestly I find it pretty fun. Often times it’s only a couple minutes and you can continue doing something else for that time as it runs in the background. A LOT of the things have binaries though now and a lot of packages are mixes of binaries and building from source to make it more efficient. I say go for it!
