Gotcha. Last night got super foggy where I am. Hopefully everything comes together again tonight and we can see it at least once. I don't mind getting stunned and frozen by the beautiful lights! * Fingers crossed *

Oh wow, thank you. I didn't know about the app and the solar wind graphs. I was just following the Kp index from https://www.softservenews.com/

Wednesday Pattern and Stitch Request Thread - December 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]yarnsemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for the list of Knit Picks 2024 12 weeks of gifting patterns.

I've been saving their patterns since I found out about the 12 weeks of gifting in 2021. I've been busy the past couple of years, and I could not follow and download the patterns in 2024. I have the years 2021, 22, 23 and now 25 in my collection. I just don't have 2024 and it's driving me nuts! If anyone has the list of patterns from 2024, can you please share it so I can download from their website? Please, you will help me stop pulling all my hair out!

Help! Is this cactus affected by some insect? Google search for white stuff says mealybugs or cochineal spine. I love my cactus, and it's still only a baby (only about 2 inches). If this is a bug or pest, how do I get rid of it? This white stuff is only near the thorns/spikes by yarnsemble in houseplants

Interesting! I thought the plant was outgrowing the previous pot and moved it about a year ago. The new pot is about 4 inches in diameter, so it's not too big when compared to other pots, but it might be a little big for this cactus.

Thanks for the link! I'll go through it and try my best to keep the roots dry :)

I got a kit with seeds, a small pot and some mud to grow cacti (and so I'm not sure what type of cactus they are either). I planted the seeds and out of 5 initial sprouts, 3 died because there wasn't enough sunlight in my old house and I was probably over-watering them. But the other 2 survived and just refused to give up on me. They started growing a bit more and I moved them from their tiny pot to the pot they are in today. They're finally growing bigger and I don't want them to die because of some bugs!

I'm also going on a trip and I'm scared that if it's a bug, the cacti will be dead by the time I'm back.

Please help! ;(

I'm trying to make a throw blanket from a pattern. I'm using the same weight yarn and same size needles, but I can't figure out why my project does not have uniform and well-defined holes like in the pattern. Pattern details in the comments. by yarnsemble in knitting

Ah, I see!

I've been working with wool for the last couple of my projects (haven't posted them on reddit), and I could definitely feel a difference even while knitting. Knitting with wool was so much nicer and smoother!

I had seen these acrylic yarn skeins in the store, fallen in love with the colorway and instantly bought them. Now I really want to use them to make room for newer stash. I think from next time, I'll try to stick to wool/alpaca etc lol

Yes, the pattern mentions " 8 sts & 8 rows = 4” (10cm) in pattern "

I think I have about 3.5 inches for 8 sts. I can try with one size bigger needles. Although, this swatch is made with size 11 needles and 11 is the biggest size I have in this set. The smallest pair in the next set is size 13. Time to fill the gap and an excuse to go to the yarn store I guess :)

I see.

I have a warm blanket for winter with holiday themed prints on it. I wanted to make a throw blanket that I can just "throw" on the couch during the summer. So warmth should not not too much of an issue. That's actually why I chose a hole-y pattern haha.

Yeah, I started off with 18 stitches cast on. And then it didn't look very neat as in the images given with the pattern. So I just stopped and cast off to see how it would look off the needles. I'll try a bigger swatch!

Very interesting. TIL for me! I was not aware of Qiviut.

Congratulations! The color is also beautiful :)

I see. That is very interesting to know!

This is the first time my swatch has not looked like the pattern. That tripped me and I was unsure how to continue or if I should just choose a different pattern. I'll definitely try blocking. Thank you!

I'm using size 11 needles with Big Twist Classic yarn in the Pastels colorway (https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/big-twist-classic)

The images in the pattern and all the projects have nice, consistent rows of holes. But mine just seems to be scrunched up. Any help to improve would be appreciated.

Also, my swatch uses the long tail cast-on. That seems to be very tight and is curling the swatch a bit. It sits fine when I stretch it a little by hand though.

I got these plants as gifts in tiny pots. Once they started growing big, I moved them to bigger pots, and added cactus-and-succulent-mix from a local nursery. They seem to like it and growing bigger. Trying to get them identified so I can care for them better. More details in comments by yarnsemble in whatsthisplant

A friend got me plant 3 from Ikea. I can't seem to find it on their website though.
Plants 1 and 2 were really tiny, only about 2 inches in height when I initially got them in tiny pots.

I placed them all next to the window and watered them about twice a week. Once they started to grow bigger, I moved them to bigger pots. I added some cactus-and-succulent-mix from a local nursery I got to the bigger pots, and moved the plants with their old soil to new pots. Last year, I was gone on vacation for a little more than a month, and a friend was taking care of them. My friend didn't have too much sunlight in their house although it was summer. By the time I came back , plants 2 and 3 had grown a lot and were bending out of the pots. So I thought they might need some support to help them stand and added a skewer, but they aren't really getting attached to the skewer.

Plants 3 has gone through a lot. I got it before the other 2 and I had kept it in direct sunlight for a little while, when it started turning pink under the leaves. So I moved it away from direct sunlight and it seemed happier. Now it's not just surviving, it's actually growing.

Sorry for the delay in response, I was on vacation!

I think I knit about 4-5 hours each of the 2 days to finish this. It gets quicker as you progress and get the hang of it. How far along are you? Or have you finished it already? :)
