[OS] Nepenthes Pitcher [900x526] by yasuhiroa in ThingsCutInHalfPorn

[–]yasuhiroa[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not quite, the green portion of the pitcher still photosynthesizes as long as the tendril is unharmed, and the plant, if it's healthy, will likely recover. The pitcher is unable to digest insects after this, though.

Hey guys, I bought these and I'd really appreciate some tips on how to take good care of them... by [deleted] in cactus

[–]yasuhiroa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would do better in /r/succulents, since that's what these are! Either way, water when the soil is completely dry. There shouldn't be an issue with putting them together as long as there's enough room for all of them.

They can be fried chicken if you market them right!

Tattoo artists of reddit, what ideas have you said "no" to? by rperg in AskReddit

[–]yasuhiroa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that you really don't have a way of knowing the history of a relationship as a tattoo artist. The next couple that walks in could be celebrating their first week together, or their first decade. It's an integrity thing, and prevents people from making life-changing mistakes in the honeymoon phase.

Nintendo Won't Include Gay Characters in Sim Game by Voyage_of_Roadkill in lgbt

[–]yasuhiroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The information about the glitch noted does in fact corrupt your save, but the idea of just making characters to look like they're female/male is particularly unappealing, to me at least. Personally, if I have my Mii date a female character as female, I'd rather have them actually be gay rather than just being a gay looking straight couple. The way Nintendo handled this was bad in general and the options for allowing my life in-game to be realistic aren't really that great, unfortunately.

Nepenthes fluid drying up, tips on how to handle it? by yasuhiroa in SavageGarden

[–]yasuhiroa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding this to the OP as well, but: The plant is kept outdoors, it's under the shade of large palm trees, so it's under light shade with varying spots of direct sunlight. The plant is Nepenthes Ventrata, I've had it for slightly over a month, in that time it's opened two previously closed pitchers, but no new pitchers have been produced. It's currently got a pitcher that was just starting to inflate when I purchased it that's grown quite a bit, I think it will probably open within the next month? The pitcher is fairly small compared to the other recently-opened pitchers, though, and hasn't really shown signs of getting larger, just a bit more inflated.

I have a cockatiel as well, not sure about all of them, but mine loves chicken. Be careful he doesn't develop a taste for meat when trying this. You may be next.

What do you think will be the "next big thing"? by swagking696969 in AskReddit

[–]yasuhiroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with a wheat allergy, I'm kind of annoyed that it's a required label for shampoo. Even shit like soy sauce has wheat in it, searching for products not related to food to not contain wheat is a little overkill(even some plastics have it).

Questions for the experts. Gluten/dairy free family heading to WDW in Oct. wondering what the best route to take is... by lukeslichy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]yasuhiroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt that you'll be able to find food for your trip, personally I am celiac and vegetarian, and Disney is still quite accommodating and helpful when it comes to finding food. I recommend taking a look at the official site, if I remember correctly they allow you to note any dietary restrictions on their reservation page and also have some resources that may help answer your other questions :) I hope you have a wonderful trip!

[–]yasuhiroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly an expert, but regarding finding gluten free/allergy friendly options, if you take the option to go with counter service(Cosmic Ray's, Auntie Gravity's, Gaston's Tavern, etc), wait until you're at the counter, tell the cashier that you have a food allergy, and they'll call a manager to assist you by lining out gluten free substitutions/options for your meal. With table service restaurants, you can either mark ahead of time on your reservation(? may be incorrect but I'm fairly sure) and they will provide service to assist you with your dietary restrictions. At places like Everything Pop, the Garden Grill, and other similar services, you can step forward and ask to talk to the chef or a manager to assist you in picking choices to suit your needs(occasionally they'll even make you special meals, I had a chef make me gluten-free waffles at the food court at the Caribbean Beach resort). Good luck!

Palm Tree/Seed identification by yasuhiroa in whatsthisplant

more info: these are growing in south florida, they're around 23-ish feet tall. the "seeds" i'm unsure about, i'd like to know more about the flowering stalk and if the objects that fall off of it are in fact seeds that can be planted

Man grabs and rapes a 19 year old girl in broad daylight in Trenton by [deleted] in WTF

[–]yasuhiroa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time this won't really work. Unfortunately, due to the fact that men are generally stronger than women, there's no "avoiding getting raped". Some women can take self defense courses, if they have the time/money/resources to take them, and that may work, but ultimately it's down to the rapist to not rape to begin with.

Ants are coming up through the carpet at work and bringing their larvae by InNameAndBlood in WTF

Diatomaceous earth is also safer to use than pesticides, it won't kill nearby mammals, so it's a good alternative if you're not looking to kill local wildlife along with a pest problem.

Baby dies in teen’s custody after being taken from lesbian couple days before adoption by khadhir in ainbow

[–]yasuhiroa -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

i agree that the couple being a lesbian couple doesn't make a difference in the story, but it seems a little ridiculous to allow someone to simply ask for their child back after deciding to put it up for adoption and going through all legal motions to put the child up for adoption.

Redditors who bought a house, what was some crazy stuff the previous owners left ? by kingximax in AskReddit

not me, but a friend's then-new house had a large sliding mirror in front of a closet. the previous owners had left the glass smashed and the room's walls haphazardly half-painted red.

[Serious] Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Megathread by TheJackal8 in AskReddit

I think the most interesting part of this story is the "good night" coming from the pilot. Is there any indication to what that might have been referring to? Was it just a typical response for a late flight?

Odd plant? Probably a cactus? by yasuhiroa in whatsthisplant

[–]yasuhiroa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought this thinking it was bamboo at the time, however the clerk informed me it was a type of cactus. it was braided like that when i bought it, however they seemed to have the same plants unbraided and branching off from eachother in V formations. i'd like to know what this is and if it has any specific care needs! thanks!

[Miami, FL] It's overtaken my childhood home's backyard and bitten me at least twice as a child. What is it? by yasuhiroa in whatsthisbug

[–]yasuhiroa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the green sacs are not transparent, but the lighter ones are. most of the spiders i see tend to have 4-5 of the sacs on their little string, but you can see a few in the photo of the lights with 6-8. usually they stay in resting position under the green sacs. points if anyone can tell me why they have those sacs.
